Uh, Mr. Striesand, could you sit back in your seat, please.  This isn't in your honor.

I'm also watching the Kennedy Center Honors.  It gets my goat how they always get the honorees they (CBS) believe are the least interesting to viewers out of the way in the first 35 minutes before moving on to the Big Stars.

Hmm... Actually, it looks like they actually put the "ratings-worthy" stars up front this year.  Well, at least the best tribute sequences.

The Castlrec newsletter today announced the upcoming YENTL dvd release--with 11, count 'em, 11 deleted scenes!

But now I'm in the mood for some classic Striesand, like her MY NAME IS BARBRA and COLOR ME BARBRA TV specials.

It was OK, for me.   I thought it felt a little rushed.  However, the singer tributes are always the hardest to pull off since they have to ride that fine line between honoring the performer, but making sure they don't "outshine" - out-sing - the performer.

*One of my all-time favorite performances was when Heather Headley sang "Your Song" for Elton John.  -That clip always makes me verklempt.

Well, yeah--I think the Freeman and Twarp musical tributes were the best, but I still think the network believed that Daultry/Townsend, Jones and Striesand were the bigger attractions and more worthy of longer segments.

Please keep the reports coming - very enjoyable, and since I don't watch this show ever it's nice to hear about it.

Although, I'm wondering if they would have changed the broadcast order if the ceremony ran in the 8:00-10:00 slot instead. ???

*The middle tribute always seems to be the "everyone is changing the channel" segment.

Hmm... So... Has anyone else tried out "LetMeGoogleThatForYou.com"?

I put in DR Jennifer's question about screen resolutions, and got this:

Had a full evening of viewing.

I began by finishing the bonus features on BREAKFAST AT TIFFANY'S. A nice tribute to Mancini by his wife and two children that dwelt on his husband and father persona rather than on all his awards and millions of albums sold. I would have preferred a longer tribute so EVERYTHING could have been discussed, but it was OK.

Some of the others were throwaways, and all the stuff on the 2006 release was ported over to this new set. The full frame clips they use of TIFFANYS in the "making of" documentary show beautifully rich and deeply saturated color. I guess nobody looked at those when they color timed the remaster back in 2006.

Next, I put in FANTASIA and watched three segments: "The Nutcracker Suite," "The Pastoral Symphony," and "Night on Bald Mountain/Ave Maria."

That censorship zooming-in to eliminate the racially offensive cherub looked REALLY horrible on my "new" TV. This is the first time I've viewed FANTASIA on my new equipment, and honestly, I think it desperately needs a new remaster before it comes out on Blu-ray in 2010.

Next, I took the PBS box BROADWAY: THE AMERICAN MUSICAL off the shelf and watched the fourth installment which covered the years 1943-60. Always enjoy revisiting this from time to time.

After that, I watched HAPPY NEW YEAR, CHARLIE BROWN. I don't think I had ever watched this one before. Not a classic like the early ones, but it would have been funnier with better kids voices cast in the roles. I guess I'm so used to the way the original kids sounded that the newer ones always sound "off."

And I ended my evening with tonight's ELI STONE. Several involving stories (Laura Benanti was a guest star), and I really enjoyed the show. I'm certainly going to miss it when it goes off the air.

Looks like I'll be working on EL NORTE on Blu-ray tomorrow, the new in Criterion's new series of Blu-ray releases. I've never seen the movie, and I'm looking forward to it.

Ugh--Laura Bush...

She handled herself better on stage than did Carolyn Kennedy.

True, but that's just my initial reaction to any of the Bushes.  Ugh!

Why does Carolyn Kennedy walk so manly when in heels?

She seems to have the rolling gait of a sailor back from 2 months at sea.
