I have a friend in Nashville who has an adorable dog named Shelby. When we travelled around Ireland with him, he brought a little stuffed Shelby, which was our mascot on the trip. Mini-Shelby had quite a few adventures, and turned out to be quite the chick-magnet!

DR JRand - The apartment is owned by another keyboard player and his husband.  -There were at least six Broadway pit pianists at the party last night, more than I've ever seen gathered in one place at one time, in fact.  -And I think we've all subbed in for each other at one point or another.  In any case...

Let's just say that Greg - the keyboard player - married well.  ;)  -Although, Greg has been doing pretty well for himself too the past couple years with back-to-back stints as the Assistant Musical Director/Conductor for two very popular musicals.

And here's Greg with my Monkey:

I do love Jose's monkey. He's quite adorable. Does he have a name, Jose? I have a monkey about the same size, whose name is Sam. I never thought about having him join me on my adventures, though. Truth be told, Sam is a bit of a layabout. He spends his time among my books and seems happy enough with that life.

I'm trying to remember if my monkey does have a name. I think it's just "Cheeky Monkey".  He also used to have a "blue" sibling - a Blue Monkey.  Although, the Blue Monkey is still hiding somewhere, I think, I hope.  In any case...

When I first started going "on the road", Steve gave me a monkey to take with me as a sort of talisman and reminder of home.  While I was cleaning out some boxes earlier this week, I happened to come across Cheeky Monkey, and since last night was my first New Year's Eve in New York City since 1991, I decided that that was a special occasion that just had to be shared with my monkey too.

*Needless to say, I did get a few strange looks on the subway when I was taking pictures of my monkey.  Although, now that I think of it, there weren't too many people who thought that that was a strange thing to be doing on New Year's Eve in New York City.  ;)

The Blue Monkey probaby has your keys.

I have just written the first three and a quarter pages of a new novel.  It was fun.  I had the first paragraph, thankfully - I wrote that a week ago, as soon as I finalized the decision about which book to write - I had it in longhand next to my bed.

Sure is pretty-looking outside.  Perhaps I'll do a long walk rather than a long jog.

I think the party starts around two o'clock, so I may do another page or two.

DR Matthew - Hmm.... Chicken and Waffles!  Just remember: maple syrup, a dash or two of Tabasco and a generous sprinkling of toasted pecans!  :)

I'll pass that along to the DP, who is using his Nana's Pennsylvania Dutch recipe.  I keep mentioning syrup and he looks at me like I have three heads.

Just stepped on the scale. Oy...

Not to worry!  Due to the axis of the earth, everything weighs five pounds more on New Year's Day.

(So, please be careful grabbing a kleenex today)

Thanks - that explains it!!!

I forgot about the Rose Parade, but was reminded at 10:50am. So i watched that. And decided to work on a scrapbook page. I have 3 that are waiting to be done (my niece at her swim class, halloween, and xmas with santa). It takes me a long time to decide on paper, ribbons and a design. But i want to work more on the swim page.

I also read a few chapters of my book. Ate lunch. And watched another episode of Top Chef Season 1.

I forgot i also would like to watch ELI STONE.

Did anybody watching the Rose Parade on NBC notice how many promos they had for shows starting this week.

It wasn't weird to see the promos. But it was weird to me to hear Nancy O'Dell (co-host for the parade on NBC) saying the promos. It was a good tactic. Because i kept thinking she was talking about a float so i was listening.

That SuperStar of Dance on sunday (where different countries do different styles) sounds interesting.

I didn't eat the apple crumble for breakfast. I ended up having a bagel and cream cheese, which i don't normally eat but love.

I didn't find the monkey strange at all.

Seriously I sleep with (well they are on my bed) 2 of my niece's stuffed animals that she sleeps with when she is here.

One is her poochela. My mom bought her 2 identical dogs in case one got lost. So at home she has poochie. And with me she has his twin brother poochela. :)

The other is a TY stuffed panda that reminds her of marzapanda from strawberry shortcake. So she sleeps with those two (or i do when she's not sleeping in my bed)!

Everything is closed here today.

So TOP CHEF marathon. And reading.

And i still have not watched the first 2 episodes of MTV's THE CITY online yet.

We had the "Top Chef" marathon last week. However, today Bravo (USA) is having "The Biggest Loser" marathon.  Sort of complementary programming. ;)

The food network here has been marathoning a ton of shows (hell's kitchen, kitchen nightmares and a lot of others). For Top Chef i think they only showed season 1 and 4.

I saw a promo for The Biggest Loser today. I think they said the new season starts this week?

And new Desperate Housewives on sunday!

My brother-in-law has a widescreen monitor and said his setting is 1440/900. This lets me view both pictures and the internet in proper ratios. But i find the type too small.

Wrote another two and a half pages, more than I normally write on the first day of a new novel - but I'm into it, and may even do the rest of the page I'm on (page six) when I get home from the partay.

I don't think anyone found the monkey "strange", DR Jennifer. However, I think some of the people on the subway and just off of Times Square may have found me strange for taking pictures of said monkey. But, then again, I already know I'm strange.

Well, the oil company still hasn't arrived, so...

I had planned to do some cleaning today, but since it's currently in the low 50s in the apartment, well... And since we're on the ground floor with a concrete slab under the tile flooring, well... And since I just checked the three insta-read thermometers in the kitchen and they're "saying" it's 52 degrees - which means it's probably feels a bit colder than that... So...

I'm heading down to MoMA for some Art, some heat, some food (probably), and I shall be bringing my monkey with me too.  :)

Laters...

Good morning/afternoon all.  We spent a quiet New Years with friends, eating Chinese and watching Eddie Izzard movies.  It was enjoyable.  Toby stayed up way past his bedtime, and as a result we all got to sleep in until 9 am this morning.  It was nice, but tomorrow I need to start getting up earlier.  Monday morning at 5 am is going to be painful unless I start getting back in the habit of early rising.

Today we are watching a marathon of Kevin Smith movies and being lazy slugs for the day.

Hello, everyone.
My news: I am now the proud owner--oops, I mean--I am NO LONGER the proud owner of a 1820 townhouse. Yes, we reached the settlement table, but only after a last-minute hiccup, which sent one of my buyers into a tailspin. But all got put right and we signed and settled. I will now rent back for a few weeks, then move.

Congrats on the sale!
