Evening folks.

I'm afraid I need a hand holding right now because I just had the third person come and give me an estimate on repairing my porch and I went ahead and sign the contract with him.

I know it needs to be done but I'm always scared to death when I do these type of things.  I looked the up on the BBB website and he got a "B" and has been in business over 25 years.   That's not to bad--it listed that he fixed any problems there were and stood behind his work.

I did want to share a web site/program I found for the mac--It's a journal that you can download and write to.  You can include pictures, videos, etc right on the page your working with.

http://www.evanagee.com/blog/2006/07/19/great-free-journal-software-for-the-mac/

I've only had it since New Years Day but I really like it.  I used to keep a journal but my handwriting is getting worse and I can't spell worth a hoot.  This way my entries will be legible and spelled correctly

I'm afraid I need a hand holding right now...

I hold your hand in mine, dear,
I press it to my lips.
I take a healthy bite
From your dainty fingertips.

My joy would be complete, dear,
If you were only here,
But still I keep your hand
As a precious souvenir.

and so on

We had a local guy who did "Creature Feature" on Saturdays.  His name was Dr. Paul Bearer (maybe I didn't spell that right).  He would go to his "music" room and do songs like that.  Oh course, HE didn't really sing them--it was a recording but I remember that one.   :)

Over the holidays, I bought myself a copy of HOLLYWOOD BABYLON; It's Back.  I never expected that I would find a book that could make Kenneth Anger look like a literary genius.

I could fall over my teachers and I wouldn't know them.  Not a single one of them made enough of an impression on me to be remembered.  High School was my horror years when the kids used to wait for me to get on the bus to go home.  I'm afraid their day wasn't complete until they had me in tears.

If I had a penny for every time I sat on the last seat on that bus and cried my way home I would be a rich person right now.  My Mom would ask me what was wrong but of course I couldn't tell her.  It would have only made things worse.  Besides, the bus driver was sitting on the bus and saw the whole thing happen day after day and never lifted a finger to do anything about it.

Needless to say, I hated school.  I was so scared that was what would happen if I went to college it's one of the main reasons I never wanted to go.

I'm taking my cue from DR Cillaliz and getting my house in order:  the dog is going in for his quarterly grooming today, and the car for its regular tune-up.   All it takes is money!  :(

Don't remind me.   I had to cancel my car tune-up today. We have black ice
What is black ice?  I mean besides ice that is black.   I thought snow was white.  Does it change colors?  Picture, please!

Unfotunately, had you gone to college, you would have probably found a brave new world, minus most of the jerks who tortured you through high school.

Has anybody else checked out MTV's new show The City?  I'm just now watching episode one. That girl olivia seems (just from a few scenes) like she is gonna be the bitch of the show!

BESTFRIENDS

Quote
Wilbur has a severe infection in his leg, and is about 20 lbs underweight. He had one leg bone completely exposed and then someone wrapped it so tightly that it caused the tissue to atrophy.
Wilbur is in good hands now and is getting treatment at the Best Friends Clinic but his recuperaton may take a while as he may be losing his back leg.

We need a comfy home for Wilbur to stay at until he is completely well and can go to his forever home.

Sure wish we lived closer.

"Black ice" is really "transparent ice" - moisture that contains few air bubbles that freezes on flat surfases like roads, sidewalks, and ponds. On asphalt roadways it is virtually invisable - and on concrete it is very faint. Black ice is also slipperier than packed snow-type ice.

Black ice is the shiny stuff you see on the near side of the road in this picture.  It is water that has melted on the road during the day, and reforms as a think layer of ice at night.

That's ok.  I don't think I missed much by not going.  We have people right now that can't get a job because they are over qualified.  They would love a job--any job but their degree keeps them from getting one unless they lie and say they don't have one.

We were just talking about that at work on Wednesday.

Hah!  I am awaiting my copy of the AUNTIE MAME/ROME ADVENTURE score.

Is this on a CD?  I adore Bronislau Kaper's score to "Auntie Mame."  I don't remember much about the score to "Rome Adventure"--- oh wait, did that have "Al Di La" in it?  It had one those "Al Di La" type songs in it that were so popular in.

Yes! Al Di La was indeed used in the movie.  It was written in 1961 and represented Italy in the Eurovision Song Contest - and sung by Betty Curtis.
It didn't win!

Wow, that picture looks like a "normal" road.  I wouldn't even guess that it had ice on it.

I wish you all could hear Miss Sheena right now.  She's on the couch snoring away.  She's had quite a day when the guy came to do all measurements for the porch.

I will say he was pretty impressed with the house.  The fact that i have brick all the way up to the roof.  He said they don't make houses with brick past the eight foot line anymore.  He said that makes the house even safer in the event of a big storm.

DR Danise,  the biggest danger of black ice is that it looks just like plain old wet roadway.

From the look of that picture, it sure does.  I guess I was lucky when I made the trip to Pittsburgh back in November.  There are so many things I wouldn't even know to look for or be aware of if it had really been cold.  I've honestly never heard the term "black ice" before just now.  Wow.  You learn things every day!

Black ice isn'[t really black.  It's ice that you can't see.  Looking at the road it looks like it's just wet - but it's solid ice.  They call it black ice. Probably because the asphalt looks black even though it's ice, but I really don't know.  All I know is it creeps up on you and you don't expect it.  I heard there were 28 car accidents in Sioux City because of it today and they called all the busses in off the street

Those DRs with dogs and cats can and that are also on Facebook can feature their pets on their homepage.  See mine for an example.  The pets can then even start having their own "friends."

Is that going a bit far??

At quick glance I didn't see how you did that.  I was thinking of having Sherlock sign up as Zack's friend.  LOL-Maybe it is too much.

A friend of mine severely burned the tops of her hands on an oven rack over Thanksgiving.
OW! That sounds really really painful.  I don't think mine is that bad.  I have put on medicine and dressed it, though.  I figured since I have a first aid kit, I may as well use the stuff

Good idea.  The one time I didn't use an antibiotic ointment on my hand it got infected from the burn.
