Stinky Rose !!!!  :D ;D :)

There's a fantastic restaurant in San Francisco called The Stinking Rose.  Features garlic in everything.  Jed and I ate there the last time we went down to the city.  We smelled of garlic for three days.

DR Danise that is great the guy is starting tomorrow.  Vibes this means he isn't the sort to disappear half way through the job.  A bit of advise you may not need, be sure not to pay for any work that has not been completed.  Somehow these guys are great at sweet talking you out of money.

He isn't going to take a dime until the job is finished.  He wants me to see what kind of work he does before we get started on anything else for the house.  I think that is very nice and more then fair.

They have lived in the area--in fact on my street for many years.  He's been in business since 1985 and like I said, when I looked him up on the BBB he has a B rating.  I think it's going to be ok.

He was very excited when I told him all of the work I want done.

I know times are hard for construction workers around here.  I'm thinking he will do a good job because he doesn't want anyone to bad mouth him and I really think he needs/wants the work.

I'm just nervous.  I don't want to put myself to far into debt myself but these repairs do need to be done and now is a very good time to get them done.

Ironically, my two favorite teachers are also known to Jed and Ann, even though they taught me (or tried) 40 years ago.  They are Dr Richard Leinaweaver and Dr. Betty Evans, both of whom taught at Central Washington University.  Jed and Ann, of course, know them through their parents, or in Jed's case grandparents.

In fact, I just sent a Facebook message to Dr. Leinaweaver this afternoon.

The now-controversial garlic diet required no change in eating habits, just adding a dozen cloves of garlic per day.

You don't actually lose weight, but you look thinner from a distance.

My sister who could not tolerate garlic at all ate there after it opened.  She was sick all night.  I couldn't believe she went.

Years ago we went to the one in San Francisco, Craig's pick on his birthday.  It really did stink & I was very relieved when they seated us on the little porch outside.  I enjoyed my meal & found nothing we ate had too much garlic in it, just that everything had garlic so I didn't overindulge.

I just read that Pat Harrington is going to be at Ray Courts' autograph show in February, so I guess that is proof positive that he's still alive.

True, but what a shame about Hayley Mills.

I hear that the soundtrack for the one of Hayley's best films, THE TWISTED NERVE is going to be released very very soon.  Isn't that ironic?

Wife Sandy and I will be traveling back to Austin on Tuesday to check on the progress of the new house and to meet with various vendors.  We'll be there for a week.

On Saturday (10), I'll be doing a signing at Borders.

That makes it a business trip.

Am in the midst of watching a Punjabi movie called MERA PIND (2008) which is the latest film of singer Harbhajan Mann (one of my favorite singers). The film is the typical patriotic punjab story about how, even if you go away to Canada and live a westernized life, you shouldn't forget your love for you birth country.

Why don't you do a business trip to Seattle?

My 50-year Garfield High School reunion is going to be in Seattle this coming summer.

Depending on how settled we are in Austin by that point and what else I have going, maybe I will.

I hope Mr. B works out for you as well as Marvelous Matt has been for DR Jeanne.

Well, I bet he's no Krafty Keith.

der Brucer

Speaking of Marvelous Matt...I am now in need of a carpenter.  I was in the downstairs when I noticed that it looked like the wall behind the toilet had some bubbles in the drywall.  Like someone had painted over water damage.....That isn't a surprise they painted over all sorts of stuff here.   Anyway, so I touched it with a screwdriver and it went right through it.   I soon discovered that there a strip that's totaled. It's only about 12" by 8" but there's no way I can fix it.

So, I may be calling another client who is a finish carpenter. I've seen his work history and it looks good. At least he has years and years of experience.  Just yesterday he said he'd be glad to do any work I need.  Well, I know that didn't work out the last time, but this is a different person and well, I need the help. So, Monday I've got to do some work for him and when I call him to tell him about it, I think I'll ask.   It's so hard to find someone who will do small jobs.

In the meantime. I am stopping work on the bathroom.  At least I've gotten this far. Once the wall is repaired getting it finished will be a breeze.

Ok, I know you folks are NOT going to believe me but this just happened.

Yesterday, I went to the vet to get Sheena's Heartguard.  I talked with the gal at the front desk about Bear and she asked if I was going to get another dog.  I told her I really wasn't planning on getting one but I felt that if there was a dog out there it would find me.

Well, I just heard Sheena carrying on outside so went to see what the heck was going on.  Well, it was a male boxer, very skinny at the dog pen.

I went out the front door and he came right to me, well, past me and went right into the house!  I shooed him into the back yard and he and Sheena are having a ball playing!

I can't take  him to the vet tomorrow because they are closed.  I guess i shall have to make some posters and see if someone is missing a dog.  In the mean time, I guess Sheena will have a playmate.
