The trial on which I've been a jurist will be turned over to us tomorrow morning.

We have heard all the witnesses and we will hear the closings in the morning, along with the judge's directions to us explaining the law we must consider in our deliberations.

It has NOT been boring.

We're getting it a day earlier than expected, so HOO and RAY.  Of course I have no idea how the deliberations will pan out.  We are all very different people on that jury and I'm certain we heard and observed things differently.

I'd be very curious to learn how a first vote might go if we were to start off that way without any discussion.

Oh, well.

DR Cillaliz - Mum called Empire (I don't know if they're strictly local) on Saturday, got the appointment for today, and their promise is that if it's in stock, they will install the next day, which is why there is a flurry of activity here right now.

I've been thinking of you and your jury trial, Ron Pulliam, and wondering how it has been going.

No. I doubt any of us will know who it is; Cillaliz might. It was next to the courthouse, so it is a legal person on a local case.

In today's local news:

Sheriff Joe is considering using the light rail to transport prisoners. The public will not be at any risk, as armed deputies will accompany them.

Will they all be wearing pink underwear?

Of course, the talk in town the last couple weeks is the upcoming Super Bowl, so I guess he needed some gimmick to get his name back in print.

If only people COULD forget Sheriff Joe

Another example of the danger of eating nuts:

TOKYO —  Seven diners in northern Japan fell ill and three remained hospitalized Tuesday after eating blowfish testicles prepared in a restaurant not authorized to serve the poisonous delicacy.

Every spot on the ground floor of that building was vacant. None of them could stay in business for the several years that construction closed down the road.

That's too bad. I was just thinking about the little shop where I bought sandwiches and lottery tickets

This weekend's National Figure Skating Championships was a surprising turn of events.  In women's figure skating there was no sign of Kimmie Meisner or Emily Hughes.  Instead, someone has risen out of the also-ran ranks to finally reach the pinnacle of U.S. women's figure skating.  She wasn't perfect, but she was lovely and interesting and MAY surprise us at World's in March

The second-place finisher was last year's second-place finisher. Last year,  she was too young for World's but she competed in,  and won, the Junior  World's, handily defeating last year's U.S. women's champion who, this year, finished in 5th position, IIRC.  I thought her seriously overrated last year and ditto this year.   This year's Bronze medalist placed 5th last year.  Because last year's women's final three had two women too young to go to World's the fourth-place finisher was selected to skate at World's and she was a disaster there.  This year, she won the free skate and finished fourth again.  But she won't go to World's and she won't be an alternate.  She scares me, too.  There is a manic look in her eyes when she's skating that is a tad terrifying.

The men's competition yielded some amazing results.  First and foremost, neither Evan Goomba Lysacek nor Johnny Weird Weir won.  Lysacek was  "lucky" to finish third (and by luck, I mean he was overscored because he's considered a world-class skater).   All three top men will go to World's.   Weir, who has been sick and lost weight and missed out on training (every year,  it's another excuse from him), WON'T be going even though he's won several Grand Prix events.  His skating was  abysmal...almost as bad as his appearance which has gotten too bizarre for words.  Let me just say he looks plucked, buffed, coiffed, dyed, dermabrased and made-up.  I'm relieved he won't be representing the U.S. this year.

For fun, I have to say the men's champion reminds me  of Clay Aiken...the eyes, the eyelashes and the teeth all contribute to the illusion.  He's a giddy little thing, too...all hand motions and mugging and unable to sit still for a minute.  He's a terrific skater, though.

That is all.

Oh, and the snow has begun. . .

Mine was backordered and I said that was ok.  Then they had a promotion that reduced installation charges, so I got a $100 credit.  Now the carpet is sitting at the installers and they haven't called to schedule.   I've been calling Home Depot.  I think I'll just call every day until I hear something or they give me the number for the installers.

I have problems tolerating progressive lenses, which I must wear to see.  Until I removed most of the reading portion from them they made me dizzy & nauseous.  Since I can read up close without glasses that is what I do most of the time.  So far separate reading glasses haven’t helped.

Have you had a pair specially prescribed for computer viewing/reading?

I can't use my progressives on the computer or for casual reading; I have a special pair with the presciption field of focus locked into the 12-24" range for reading/computer viewing - they work great (just don't try tp look up at a clock across the room  :)

So, what I'd like to do is get a new skylight that can open to let out all the hot air and (hopefully) has a screen so that things can't fly or crawl in.

Before you act, read/see "P.S Your Cat Is Dead".

Re THE CLOSER -

I wonder if Kyra knows how much she was upstaged by Kitty throughtout the closing minutes of tonight's opening scene?

der Brucer

 ;D  Kitty was soooo cute.

How on earth did I miss Kitty???

In the scene where Brenda is trying on wedding gowns in her bedroom, Kitty starts on a pillow, migrates to the center of the bed, and "he" ends up curled up in the center of a wedding dress. The scene is very cleverly edited; you don't focus on Kitty moving, it's just "he" is in a different spot on each cut.

What a day.  I had Kansas City Barbecue for lunch.  Did all the Kritzerland business, which took about three hours.  And I wrote a little over six pages, I think.  May do another page much later tonight, but now I have to print out some Sean McDermott stuff, and then relax before I toddle off to the Studio Cafe.  I won't be eating anything more than a dinner salad.

My progressive lenses have the computer distance in them.  I also try & enlarge everything a bit on the computer.  Years ago it really bothered me to look at a computer.  As computer technology improved so did my ability to use one without getting ill.

Before removing most of the bottom section for reading in my glasses I tried using three different sets of glasses.  The switching back & forth was worse, as you said don't try looking up-lol.  For that same reason I don't use my distance only glasses for watching tv, I can't stand the motion when I look at anything else in the room.

One percent of the $1.4 billion spent on our light rail system had to be spent on art. There is art at most of the stations. Here is some art:

So people will be walking on Sandra Day O'Connor's face? Isn't that a bit unseemly?

Not as unseemly as what Fido might do.
