They mentioned something I hadn't thought of - if you have an old TV, but a fairly new (<5yrs old) VCR, you may not need a converter box (just run the antenna through the digital tuner in the VCR).

I don't know about other folks' DVRs, but the cable guide with my DVR has those overruns "built into" the information for the show. It records precisely the amount of time the network claims each show will run.
