Just read that Molly Bee died Saturday of complications from a stroke at age 69.

Poor thing. She had a pretty hard life.

I'm not a fan of Cilea's opera ADRIANA LECOUVREUR. Poisoned violets and jealousy verge on camp to me. So I'm back from the Met. i do love my friend Cathie.

I watched HOBSON'S CHOICE afterward. Despite DR JRand's dislike of it, it's always been a delightful film to me. I love Charles Laughton's over-the-top performance amid the regular playing of everyone else, and the story, a view of the feminist movement decades before it happened, is both funny and poignant. And Lean's direction is superlative. His "small films" have always had enormous appeal to me, and this one, his next to last small project before he began his massive epics with KWAI, is a near perfect rendering of a stage warhorse.

I don't know about Jack, but I said I would vote for a root canal, or HIGH SCHOOL MUSICAL 3, or some other fate; rather than watch HOBSON'S CHOICE.

Spoo! Sorry, DR Jrand.

I guess there goes another horse race. I gave it a very positive review.

I just had a great idea!

Let's do a revival of Into the Woods, starring Victoria Clark!

;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

That was a real laught riot.

She can do it after she plays Nellie forbush!

and if you knew Ms Clark you might detest her, too!

I will say that playing the Narrator/Mysterious Man in INTO THE WOODS was one of the most challenging assignments I've ever had in a theatrical production. There were just SO many words, and I had to make a couple of split-second changes to go from one to the other. And be able to walk back out and just start spouting more narration. I was constantly having to think about the next change, the next set of lines.

Very satisfying to say the least but I was exhausted after every performance. So, needless to say, the show has a very special place in my heart.

Today we rode the light rail with the goal of photographing the public art at each platform. We almost made it. Here is some public art we saw:

So maybe Bruce Yeko will remaster the albums that you didn't get to do and he will make sure that Guy Haines' recordings will the light of day again

Maybe he and BK can collaborate and finish the Sherman Brothers CD the way it should've been done. ;)

I had some time before I wanted to start watching TV, so I put in BLACK NARCISSUS. Such a haunting movie.

Next, I watched last night's HEROES. Involving episode and a good start to the season. I certainly hope Hiro can regain his powers. It's a less interesting show when he's without because without powers, he's not very interesting.

AMERICAN IDOL had a little more singing, but I was surprised by some who made it. Quite a few of the ladies were singing way off pitch. And more melisma than I think I've ever heard before.

NCIS had a good episode involving the unit in gang warfare, not typical turf for them. And a neat little twist at the end after leading us down a certain path. Good job!

I ended my evening with THE MENTALIST. Though I guessed the killer easily after seeing the complete range of suspects, I still loved the show with Patrick doing a lot of his tricks this week. Those are always my favorite episodes.

And I saved tonight's LEVERAGE to watch tomorrow while I eat lunch.

Then, I'll start on my next work project: Season 9 of MURDER SHE WROTE.

I am supposed to go to Omaha by 8:30 AM for a seminar, but I've decided not to go.  So I have the next two days blocked off. I can't wait. I'm going to be working in my office and not have any appointments or court hearings.   Since I have 2 jury trials in March and a number of things happening between now and then, it will be a welcome time to get some hours in and get some work done.

Molly Bee was a country singer who was on the Tennessee Ernie Ford variety show and also appeared with Arthur Godfrey.  She was briefly married to Kenny Miller - B movie star - and had a brief film career herself.

When asked about her movie "Chartruse Caboose" Miss Bee told one interview:  "It was not released, it escaped."

And of course she could yodel:

In the late 1990's she lost part of her nose to skin cancer....they rebuilt it with skin from her ear....but she retired from show business.

I'm saying "maybe" that's what's happened - or maybe he's going to run it - who knows, who cares?  Not me. Frankly, I'd rather just see it all go away and my recordings come back where they belong - to me.

Finished watching The Yellow Rolls Royce and am now listening to CDs.  I had a craving and I'm afraid I satisfied it by going to Gelson's and getting a Parisienne cake and having a nice big slice.  Sometimes one simply must.  I'll bring the rest to someone tomorrow.  I've had my cake and ate it, too, and I don't need anymore.
