When I first started hearing news reports about euthanasia (maybe during the Kevorkian years), I honestly couldn't figure out why so many people were discussing the young people of China.

When I was a lad, there were signs all over Pittsburgh urging us to SAVE SOVIET JEWRY; I honestly read it to mean saving JEWELRY and could not comprehend why the Soviet Jewels were more important than others. . .

Many weddings come with "conditions," too.

At first I read that as a "feral holiday" and was thinking about wild cats.

DR JMK, FWIW I also didn't "get" SIDEWAYS.  Or maybe I just didn't like it. I can't understand what so many people saw in it.

As for the other blog mentioned here, I received neither an email nor a PM, and it is just as well. My views on this "discussion" are in the same camp with singdaw's--only he said it more nicely than I would have.

DR Jose, re: IDOL, other than some of the selections the show actually did not annoy me last night. It was pretty much what i expected. Although there were so many people i'd never seen before. And some chosen to go thru will have a lot of trouble i think (because of that).

I don't think I've had a piece of Spam in 30 or 40 years at least.

Then you're about due, don't you think?     :)

You can have my piece. :D

Do you have problems with mud slides caused by rainfall in burned out areas, or is the terrain mostly flat?

der Brucer

It is hilly to mountainous area where nearly all the fires are or have been. The valleys of course funnel the fires.  Eucalpyts "explode" with fire and this of course increases the heat. Much of vegetation regeneration relies on bush fires. The problem is of course that we like to live in the areas!

Mud slides are not a big issue - more of an issue is the impingment on our water catchments.  We have so little water as it is.  I thought the Califonia Hills north of LA were simialr to many of the areas here - but of course here they are covered in eucalypt forest and scrub.  Now to check on today's Fire reports.

Rice-A-Roni, the San Francisco treat.

I absolutely adore Rice-a-Roni, but it costs more than regular rice, and since I eat a fair amount of rice, I tend not to buy it very often. But I think it's delicious.

It is a beautiful day here. I didn't need to wear a jacket at lunch (won't be so lucky tomorrow when I'm out running my Friday errands). Not a cloud in the sky.

Lovely photo DR ELMORE!

Thank you, DR JRand58!  She's grown into a beautiful young lady and I'm quite proud of her,

The flowers are ordered and, while i was in the market, I ran into a soprano friend, who was in SUNDAY IN THE PARK WITH GEORGE, I haven't seen in at least 12 years! She looks so fabulous, I said to her, you look younger than when I met you 100 years ago!

I have already uttered my first round of curses about that. I'm sure on Monday, I will begin a new round of invective.

I watched three MURDER SHE WROTE episodes this afternoon. Two took place in Cabot Cove and one in New York. Lots of guest stars including Richard Beymer, Edd Byrnes, Amy Brennaman, Larry Wilcox, Dennis Christopher, Michael Tolan, Julie Adams.

Miss Piggy was just interviewed on The View - apparently "she" has just "written" a book

Tomovoz may know this, but Miss Piggy made her professional debut on a skit which introduced Miss Lani Hall singing the incredible Dave Frishberg piece "Wheelers and Dealers" on an early 1970s Herb Alpert special.  You can find it on YouTube.  Lani and band are performing live, BTW--it's not a lip synch, to her lasting credit.

DR JMK is alluding to my liking for the voice of Mrs Alpert rather than to my adoration of Ms Piggy.
(I always thought of Miss Piggy as being another version of Loretta Switt).
