Well, you've read the notes, the notes started at the top, and now it is time for you to post until the top cows come home - Top Cows - isn't that a reality TV show?

Topic of the Day:  the one and only Johnny Carson.

I remember liking Merv Griffin and Mike Douglas a lot, too, but not as much.  Tom Snyder and Charlie Rose gave/give great interviews.  But I also loved Rosie O'Donnell and her show.  Now-a-days, I really like Bonnie Hunt and Craig Ferguson.  I also enjoy Ellen DeGeneres, but I don't seem to watch her show very much.

One of my favorite Johnny Carson guests was Bernadette Peters, when she sang "Making Love Alone."  Hysterical!!  I actually was able to record it on videotape and still have it somewhere in my garage. ;D

A very happy birthday to BK's daughter Jennifer

Jennifer
Funny how so many moments slip away
The things I meant to say
I should have said them all before today
To Jennifer, Jennifer.

Funny how you'd smile and always understand
When I got out of hand
Have you forgotten all the fun we planned
My Jennifer, Jennifer?

And now you think you're getting in my way,
And all I want to do is find you, and remind you
Even if I may become a star someday
I'd give it all away
If it meant that I couldn't always stay
With Jennifer, Jennifer.

So now I'm begging you to come back home
You'll never have to be alone
We'll be as we were
My Jennifer.

TOD

I enjoyed Mike Douglas as well and I like the fact that he had a different celebrity co-star every week. My most vivid memory of the show is when Gypsy Rose Lee was co-host. On the first day she was introduced the curtains parted and she was there with luggage and streamer trunk and started to do a mini striptease. Of course at that time I didn't understand why she was doing that and wasn't until years later when I played LA in Gypsy did I make the connection.

In the last two or seasons as the show was losing its popularity the show became nothing more than a glorified promotion mill. The sponsers were there to promote their movies, tv shows, books etc. It was no longer what it once was. I also believe that the show moved from Philadelphia to LA

I also like Dick Cavett because he had interviews with people who didn't usually appear on talk shows. He asked intelligent question and the guest were there not to promote a project like a book or movie.

Along the same lines I like the Phil Donahue show. His show was eventually pushed out because of the advent of talks shows like Ricki Lake, Maury Povich, and Jerry Springer.

What was interesting about Springer is that his show started out to be a Phil Donahue type of show, but was at the bottom of the ratings and turn to as some people call "white trailer park trash" show. The ratings soared and it is what it is today. I think its a travesty and the only way I would see it is when then they played clips on E's old Talk Soup show.

If I remember the Merv Griffen Show it was offered in a 60 minute or 90 minute syndicated show. I remember watching it and at the goodbyes and thank yous there were guest who were not there during the previous hour.

I think I mentioned this before, but is there no way to contact Merv Griffen productions to see if the show still exist and get a copy?

Good Morning - I am finally caught up

Saturday afternoon I went to the hairdresser and had a nice shampoo, trim and blowout so my hair looks a bit more presentable.

Then I came home had a small nap and then we got ready for the Vixter's concert.  She had to be ther an hour before showyime so we headed out and got there an hour and ten minutes before show time.  I was excited to see there were very few cars in the parking lot  and was looking forward to snagging some good seats up front.

Then I realized that our tickets to the concert were still hanging on the refrigerator door!

We dropped the Vixter off and zoomed home, grabbed the tickets and zoomed back to find a pretty full parking lot.

We ended up sitting way in the back of the auditorium but we could still hear and when
the Vixter came on we had a clear view of her.

These were all 9th and 10th grade kids - so 14 & 15 years old.  They only had three rehearsals and these were kids from all over the county so they had never worked together before last Saturday.

They were fantastic!  We were however a little dissapointed with the selections the chorus conductor chose.  In talking to other concert goers after the show we found most people had the same reaction.  In the past the chorus had songs that were uplifting and soaring and showed off the abilities of the singers with different parts being sung

These selections were a bit boring and one of them (I forget the first or the second) was sung in unison .

The nice thing about these SCMEA concerts is they only pick a handful of kids from each school (the Vixter was one of 6 from her chorus) so the kids are aware that it is an honor to be chosen and so do their parents and families. Also, unlike a regular school concert which is free you have to buy tickets to the concert and you are limited in the number you can buy.  As a result the audience is made up of people who want to be there and are interested in hearing the music.

There was no talking, paper rustling, texting, flash photography etc from audience members.  It was a welcome change from the usual audience behavior.

TOD:

Johnny Carson--no one else comes close.

I mostly remember liking Carson during the 70's, when the guests were there to just be there and entertain (and sometimes nicely greased with whatever was being served in the green room.)  It was a party atmosphere where you really did feel that anything could happen.

I also liked DIck Cavette, Tom Snyder and David Susskind.  Today I enjoy David Letterman, though the guest on his show (just like every other talk show for the past twenty years) are there to do nothing but promote, promote, promote.
