I spent the evening watching three movies. I can't say much about the first one except that it was a thrill to see it again after so long. I had forgotten so much in decades away from it.

The second one was QUANTUM OF SOLACE on Blu-ray which I was watching for the second time. I liked it a little more this second time around. I still thought Bond's final fight with his nemesis was ludicrous and the Bonds girls weren't very interesting at all.

But now that Bond has put Vespa Lynn behind him, maybe the next one will be a little lighter in tone.

I finished my evening with the 1931 PRIVATE LIVES from the Warner Archive collection. Yes, it's an old video master cluttered with age specks and debris (though the second half of the film looks better than the first). And the primitive sound of the time is hissy and fizzy.

But sharpness is OK and it looks certainly as good as the TCM broadcast version. In fact, this IS the broadcast version since the disc begins with the Turner logo.

The Country Wife

It's a play I read in college and have never seen. Thank God for those Brits and Restoration plays. I don't know that many American actors could pull this off anymore. It's a lost art doing this kind of theatre.

At Intermission we had Little Pie Shop Pecan Pie and Hagen Daz Vanilla Ice Cream. I shall need an hour on the bike tomorrow to make up for that little treat.

Thank you, Elmore for a wonderful evening. The day was gorgeous and the film was a lovely way to end it.

I enjoy Dame Helen Mirran's performances, but I am distressed at her anti-American sentiments expressed here and there. If that is the way she feels, she can stay home and earn her money in the Old Country.

I received my INSIDE DAISY CLOVER cd and it is quite the listening experience. I am surprised that professionals other than MR BK were not able to identify Ms Joanie Sommers as the "ghost" on the one track.....I recognized her immediately!

I would enjoy hearing the Masterworks summer Show Tune Concert in June. George, is that also at the Washington Center?

Yes. As far as I know, they always perform their major concerts at the WCPA.

*And I have to thank Andrew (one of my bartenders) for pulling some strings in the kitchen tonight. The Salted Caramel-Chocolate Pot de Crème is actually not on the menu yet. A few nights ago, I noticed that some of the staff were sampling the new dessert. Well, tonight I figured I might as well ask if there was still a "sample" in the kitchen, and, lo and behold, there was!

YUMMERS!!!!!!!!!!!!
