DR Jane - I looked and looked on the Oregon map for the county where The Hearts of Horses takes place.  I was so relieved when I confirmed that she'd made it up!

Thanks for the warning ;) :D

I'm up (barely) and awake (uh-huh) and I (desperately) need coffee (right now)!

Am going to Trader Joe's this morning for a bit of shopping (I need COMFORT foods).  I also need to get gas.

Oh, the travails of having to maintain one's existence!

And what was DR Ron doing up at 1:00 a.m.?

As for the Topic of the Day...

Jacques Brel...
Side By Side By Sondheim*
A Grand Night for Singing
Back to Bacharach and David*
Songs for a New World
When Pigs Fly
Starting Here, Starting Now
Closer Than Ever

*I've MD'ed productions of these. Oh...

What If?

(of course)

But I think my favorite revue is still the Harry Chapin one:

Lies and Legends

I also enjoyed LIES AND LEGENDS.

Good Afternoon!

Well... I decided to head back to the apartment to do some cleaning and get a head start on packing my luggage.  However, since the vacuum cleaner just broke - I think some internal fuse just blew - I'm taking that as a sign that I'm supposed to be out and about taking in a bit more of "The Holy City" before I head in for tonight's pre-show photo-call.

Sounds like a plan to me. ;)

When Gloria DeHaven left a show, is it apocryphal or did a newspaper actually carry the headline AIN'T MISS DeHAVEN?

BK - If the number in question was "What did I do to be so black and blue" - That number did get standing, whooping and hollering back when I saw it in the original production's run thirty years ago.

A middle-of-show reaction of the likes I had previously seen only after "City Lights" in THE ACT.

Does anyone know if the (seemingly obvious) use of "Different Worlds (Theme from ANGIE)" as a parody of SWEENEY TODD has been done in any major venue, such that if did one I should worry about being accused of being a copycat?

The "Love it seeks, love it finds, love it conquers, love it binds" seems to cry out for being reworked with "Lovett" instead of "love it."

This is my rough sketch of the parody.

(celebrating the simultaneous 30th anniversary year of the TV show ANGIE and the debut of SWEENEY TODD, imagine a TV sitcom about Angela Lansbury as Mrs. Lovett)

Let the crimes grow, let the blood flow
Let the swain glower, let the love sour

Lovett bakes and Lovett brines
Lovett’s bonkers, Lovett pines

She pines but that guy loves a different girl;
She plots and she plans ‘til she earns the fella’s trust
She’s sure that he can’t love that different girl
Then there’s lots of noise an’
She tells him she died from poison

Let the crimes grow, let the blood flow
Let the swain glower, let the love sour

Lovett freaks then Lovett finds
Lovett conquers, Lovett grinds

She grinds while she drives off that different girl
She does it for love that might stand the test of time
Her love gets his mind off that different girl
With this love they harbor
It’s such fun to be a barber

Let the crimes grow, let the blood flow
Let the swain glower, let the love sour

Lovett bakes and Lovett brines
Lovett’s bonkers, Lovett pines
Lovett seeks and Lovett finds

(Lovett sneaks and Lovett finds
Lovett conquers)

Lovett gri-i-i-i-i-i-inds

Lovett seeks and Lovett finds
Lovett conquers, Lovett gri-inds

I am slightly in shock after having visited the theater where The Producers will run this summer.  I haven't played this place since a major multimillion dollar remodel a few years ago.  I was shown the "pit" today and had assumed it couldn't possibly be worse than the old one, which was actually a little attic space you had to literally climb up a ladder to get to, with no view of the stage.  Well this new one is a pit, kind of, but it's "terraced," with three levels that can't see each other.  The mind boggles.

Thanks, George!

It seems interesting that TV's ANGIE and Angie in Bway's SWEENEY TODD premiered within the same four week span.

JMK -  Will there be monitors or TV's in the pits for communication between the people?

Well, another MD who's done a lot of shows there since the remodel told me that that's what he's done, but it sounded like he paid for that himself.  There's no way I'm going to pay for video monitors due to this idiotic design.

Why not posting #1

My IPod 16,093 (Although they are not 16,093 different tracks. For example I have:
8 versions of Accentuate The Positive, 31 Send in the Clowns (Cast recordings [including reprises] and vocal versions) ,12 versions of Music of the Night ( One in Chinese)

Michael, do you have the Swedish version of "Send in the Clowns" called "Var Ar Min Clown" by Anni-Frid Lyngstad (the brunette from ABBA) on her album, Frida Ensam?  I actually have this CD with me at work right now.  There is also a newer, remastered 13-track reissue with two bonus tracks, but I don't have that.

Just curious. :)

I would LOVE to hear a Swedish cast recording of A Little Night Music. ;D

Hello, everyone.

Just back from the usual Saturday morning excursion to the doggie park, which is always fun. Gorgeous day here, too.

One should not wear sandals to the doggie park. (No, I knew better.) One should also be prepared to get knocked down--or close--on occasion due to frisky, playful dogs.

I love these, but I only know them by the recordings:
And The World Goes Round
As Thousands Cheer
Closer Than Ever
Gay 90's
Marry Me A Little
Putting It Together
Side by Side by Sondheim
Starting Here, Starting Now
When Pigs Fly
Whoop Dee Doo

Shows that I have actually seen (live or on video/DVD):
Ain't Misbehavin'
A Grand Night for Singing
What If?

Just wanted to say hello.  It's a beautiful Saturday outside.

I have not read the notes or posts since Wednesday night.  Will do that later today.

Went to the dentist Thursday (boring story) (I'm having food withdrawls) as I can not eat anything that is hard, crunchy, sticky, or chewy for 14 days.  So I am cranky.

Will catch up later, after I snap out of it.

I'm trying to convince myself that at least I'll take off about 10 pounds.  Now that is a positive thing.

Till later.

I received an e-mail with the artwork for "Romeo & Juliet" [where both Romeo and Juliet are being played by men...as men (and not for comedy) and I've been cast as Romeo's father!] and here it is:

However, I don't know if the arms in the photo are the arms of the actors who will actually be playing Romeo and Juliet.  I would assume that they are, but I haven't specifically heard...yet.

How is the rash, Jane?

Thank you for asking.  It seems to have stopped spreading.  My face is almost all cleared up.  The patches scattered around my body are much better.  My arms are still bothersome, however I no long look as if an alien is taking over my body. :)  While my right arm is still raw & tender, I am no longer in pain & the swelling continues to subside.
