The Associated Press is reporting that Bea Arthur has died at 86.

http://www.nytimes.com/aponline/2009/04/25/arts/AP-US-Obit-Arthur.html

That comes as a shock!

As sad as I am about her passing, her death is not a shock to me.  I saw a photograph of her attending some awards show or other a few months back and I remember thinking that she did not look well at all.

It's really been a shame that to a generation of young people  Bea Arthur's name had become synonymous with "extremely unattractive".  I feel very lucky that I got to know her through her performance as MAUDE and as Dorothy in THE GOLDEN GIRLS.  She's given me hours of laughter over the years.

Back from the Hollywood Show (as it's now called) - pretty crowded, but one of the most lacklustre gatherings I've ever seen there.  The crowds were there for one reason and one reason only - the cast of Back To The Future and sequels, including Lea Thompson and Christopher Lloyd - I think they've only done this once before and certainly not in LA.  The lines were out the door and four thick.  They may as well have called it a Back To The Future convention - there were at least eight dealers who were ONLY selling BTTF stuff.   I can't even remember who I saw there - Richard Erdman, Warren Berlinger, Gil Gerard, Linda Harrison, George Kennedy (looking SO old), Johnny Whitaker, and that's about it for people I knew.  Shocking, really - but as long as they pull off a BTTF sort of deal, they'll be fine.  It also seems that there have been more dealers there for the last couple of shows, a good thing.

Are there any plans for a BACK TO THE FUTURE remake or some such or other?  I've been seeing/hearing a lot of chi-chat about the films lately.

Does anyone know if the (seemingly obvious) use of "Different Worlds (Theme from ANGIE)" as a parody of SWEENEY TODD has been done in any major venue, such that if did one I should worry about being accused of being a copycat?

The "Love it seeks, love it finds, love it conquers, love it binds" seems to cry out for being reworked with "Lovett" instead of "love it."

This is my rough sketch of the parody.

(celebrating the simultaneous 30th anniversary year of the TV show ANGIE and the debut of SWEENEY TODD, imagine a TV sitcom about Angela Lansbury as Mrs. Lovett)

Let the crimes grow, let the blood flow
Let the swain glower, let the love sour

Lovett bakes and Lovett brines
Lovett’s bonkers, Lovett pines

She pines but that guy loves a different girl;
She plots and she plans ‘til she earns the fella’s trust
She’s sure that he can’t love that different girl
Then there’s lots of noise an’
She tells him she died from poison

Let the crimes grow, let the blood flow
Let the swain glower, let the love sour

Lovett freaks then Lovett finds
Lovett conquers, Lovett grinds

She grinds while she drives off that different girl
She does it for love that might stand the test of time
Her love gets his mind off that different girl
With this love they harbor
It’s such fun to be a barber

Let the crimes grow, let the blood flow
Let the swain glower, let the love sour

Lovett bakes and Lovett brines
Lovett’s bonkers, Lovett pines
Lovett seeks and Lovett finds

(Lovett sneaks and Lovett finds
Lovett conquers)

Lovett gri-i-i-i-i-i-inds

Lovett seeks and Lovett finds
Lovett conquers, Lovett gri-inds

 :D  :D  :D

Don't remember if I ever posted this here, but...

(Sweeney Todd and Mrs Lovett seated at the harmonium)

Todd:  Boy, the way Pirelli bled

Mrs. Lovett:  Pies I made from his fat head

Todd:  Guys like him I soon shaved dead

Both:  Those were the days!

Mrs. Lovett:  And you slew who no one knew

Todd:  Everyone went down with brew

Both:  Mister we could use a man
           Like Beadle Bamford to chew.

Todd:  Offered shaves at a cut rate

Mrs. Lovett:  More hot pies they ate and ate

Both:  Gee, our barber chair worked great.
           Those were the days!

Anyone in LA going to see the musical NO WAY TO TREAT A LADY?

BK produced the Broadway cast album and is one of my favorites

The "hidden" track is a hoot.

Is this show based on the Rod Steiger picture about a serial killer?

Why not posting #1

My IPod 16,093 (Although they are not 16,093 different tracks. For example I have:
8 versions of Accentuate The Positive, 31 Send in the Clowns (Cast recordings [including reprises] and vocal versions) ,12 versions of Music of the Night ( One in Chinese)

Michael, do you have the Swedish version of "Send in the Clowns" called "Var Ar Min Clown" by Anni-Frid Lyngstad (the brunette from ABBA) on her album, Frida Ensam?  I actually have this CD with me at work right now.  There is also a newer, remastered 13-track reissue with two bonus tracks, but I don't have that.

Just curious. :)

I would LOVE to hear a Swedish cast recording of A Little Night Music. ;D

No I don't have those recordings

Just heard about Bea Arthur on the news.

A great performer. She will be missed.

And I was also just told that my mother is friends with Bea's sister who lives in Montreal.

I had a very nice day - it was warm, sunny and breeze free.

This morning Vixdad took us out to breakfast where I managed to eat 2 poache eggs and half a slice of buttered rye toast

Vixdad had plans for the day so the Vixter and I sat in the sunny back yard for a while and read.  The we decided to go out for a car ride

We stopped at a few garage sales and browsed and chatted with people

Then we went to Checkers ( a fast food place in teh neighborhood, it's been here at least 15 years and I have never been to it).

We had coupons that enable me to geta hotdog, fries and coke for 99 cents  and teh Vixter got a "Big Buford" which is a double hamburger with cheesw, tomato, lettuce and tomato, (although she had them hold everything but the meat ) and order of fries and a coke for only $2.99

They do not have any inside seating but they have several nice tables with umbrellas set up on a patio and speakers palying mellow seventies music all around.  It was very pleasnt sitting tehr inteh sunshine listening ti the nice music and chatting with the Vixter

I was able to eat the whole hotdog (albeit without teh bun which was too difficult for me to swallow)  and  several fries

A good eating day for me!!

And they gave us 2 more sheets of coupons so we can go back again

Thank you DR Vixmom.  I'm very happy you had another nice day, and continue to eat.  Are you still supplementing with cans?

The Vixter decided that she does not want a cake for her birthday, she wants cupcakes instead so we went to the grocery store and bought some vanilla cake mix and vanilla icing so we can bake them Tuesday afternoon.

On her birthday she must sing in a high school concert so afterwards we can have her grandparents and my brother and his fiancee over for cupcakes and ice cream.

Thank you DR Vixmom.  I'm very happy you had another nice day, and continue to eat.  Are you still supplementing with cans?

I have not had a can since Thursday, they make me feel very full and bloated so it is hard to keep eating. I am trying to eat enough so that I can maintain my weight and then they will allow me tohave the feeding tube removed

If I find I am losing weight again I will start supplementing again, I still have about a dozen cans in the cupboard and I can get more if I need them
