Yesterday Miss Karen asked re: SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE

Quote
DR Jennifer ~ Have you read or heard how they match the couples? Is it strictly drawing from a hat like they supposedly do for the dances each week? I was just wondering cause like Broadway Evan and Randi match each other perfectly (Cat was even kidding them about how cute and short they were -- and she wanted to put them in her pocket -- of course, she's like 6 ft tall) Would it hurt a couple if a really short guy got a really tall girl -- and then when they do the ball room dances, would it look strange, for example?

I really like Cat as a host -- she really grows on ya, I think.

I also love Cat. She is so beautiful and compassionate towards the dancers. I think she is wonderful.

I am not positive but i believe they match the couples in the beginning. In the middle they choose couples by draw. And in the beginning if people lose their partners they are paired with the remaining contestant.

But i'm pretty sure that the producers set up the original couples. I'm not sure how they do it. I'd love to hear their rationale.

It's tough because some people were shown a lot during Vegas week. And i expect that they will remain safe even if they aren't that great.

There are so many people in this show who shouldn't be in theatre unless they buy a ticket.

One lady in the ensemble decided she didn't want to do the show last night because she was too tired, so she didn't come.

Absolutely unthinkable and completely unforgivable. Fire her ass from the show.

I do not see any screaming, blaring headlines today stating that Civilization As We Know It has come to an end because of the switchover to digital television transmission.

Does this mean that cable services will stop offering separate channels for the HD version of this network and that?

Not sure but I'll certainly find out today!

Good morning!

We did have a nice shower last night which cooled things down and allowed me to open the windows last night for a good sleep. Hot again today, and I'm sure the humidity will also be terrible.

I haven't done a show with a lot of kids in the chorus since SCROOGE which was right before the cellphone influx. I can't imagine what it would be like today, and I'm frankly not anxious to find out.

My work project today will be MIRACLE, I think. I do have some decisions to make about it or another disc.

Until the UPS drove up a few minutes ago, MIRACLE was going to be it, but UPS delivered THE DIARY OF ANNE FRANK on Blu-ray, and this is the first Fox Blu-ray I've gotten before street date, and I'm very tempted to do it today and maybe MIRACLE tomorrow. Both are long and have quite a few bonus features with them, so each will take most of the day to complete. I have seen ANNE FRANK before (owned it on both laserdisc and DVD) but haven't seen MIRACLE.

Decisions, decisions....

Has any DR heard anything about Woody Allen's latest film, Whatever Works?

Apparently, Allen took a never-filmed script from his 1970s comic heyday and updated it, while retaining the tone and charm of his most beloved early films.

I like what I see in the preview.  Larry David seems like a good WA stand-in for this movie.

Friday.  Oh well.  I only work 5 hours, so I can't into too much trouble.

As for the DVR question asked by DR MATTH DR GEORGE and DR MBARNUM.

Saturday at 3 p.m. EST on the History Channel.  My sister's episode of UFO HUNTERS is supposed to be broadcast.  If I end up with three copies of that, it would be great - one to keep, one to share, and one for the store.

The episode is titled "Dark Presence", so if it is really broadcast, and it is that TITLE, that is the one.

Thanks so much.  I will be at work, and I do not have copying capabilities because of the way my system is set up....sometimes I can record when I am there.....sometimes not.  But it NEVER works when I set it record when I am away.

I just checked on Tivo.com and the listings there aren't showing that particular episode for tomorrow.  THe ones playing tomorrow are "UFO Surveillance", "First Contact", "Military vs. UFOs" and "The Greys Conspiracy".  But maybe Tivo has it wrong--I'll double check what Comcast is saying about the episodes tonight when I get home.

I think you should file a complaint about her to non-Equity.

And as for the digital switch - or the switch to digital...

Well, each TV station is switching at various times today.  The WNBC here in New York is flipping the switch sometime this afternoon.  -And, of course, they will be running a special at Noon to go over the "switch to digital". Again. In any case...

A friend of mine from college is the "Northeast Regional DTV Coordinator" for the FCC.  Needless to say, she is sooooo looking forward to tomorrow. She will finally get to sleep in for the first time in over a year. She only had to coordinate, not implement, nor follow-up.

Just make sure that you are prepared for the switch to digital:  have plenty of canned foods, bottled water, flashlight batteries, and cash on hand.  Make sure that you are familiar with the evacuation routes where you live.  And if you should find yourself outdoors without shelter, find a nearby overpass to seek safety.  Avoid animals that look like they are behaving strangely.

Hmmm... Back to digital for a sec...  I was just checking some info on the interwebs, and came across this:

"Cable TV systems are not required to convert, but must-carry rules will require local stations to be carried in analog for at least three years after the over-the-air cutoff, until early 2012. Must-carry rules requiring digital-only subchannels to be carried have been a source of contention."

What?!?!?

There will still be "standard" and "HD" versions available of various channels.  The "switch to digital" affects how the show is transmitted and received, not what kind of TV set you have at home. -Since most HD channels are in "wide-screen" or some semblance thereof.

But, then again, I could be totally wrong about that.

But, then again... It was a post.

Discuss.

DR Jose - would you like for one of your revisits to Twelfth Night to take place during the week of June 29?  Our only definite plans, so far, are Blithe Spririt on Tuesday.

It could.  It will probably depend upon the weather and how crazy the lines will be by then.  But sounds like a good plan.

From DR Sam
Quote
Going through my dad's place is very strange.  I am finding things, old paperwork from his life, I never new existed.  I just wish he had kept things from all the movie locations he was on.  But no luck yet.

I had the same experience going through my father's papers.  It was rather strange & emotional.  Like you I had to rush through it.  I wish I could have kept more than I did.  I hope you find the things from the movie locations you are looking for.

Nothing across the board. DC is on my mind.

Sound like a Richie Cole song. Well, I guess more like a Billy Joel-Richie Cole mash-up.

Yes!!  I forgot to say:  Thanks for your theatre reportage!   :)

Thank You, DR DAW.

*I sort of wish I had gone into more detail, but I guess since it was late - the play didn't end until 11:30 - I kept my "review" brief.  Which, I guess, was a good thing.  ;)
