Death Masks:

In roughly bottom-to-top, left-to-right order, the faces in this photo belong to:

On the ledge: Abraham Lincoln, Laurence Barrett, Sir Richard Owen, Robert E. Lee, John C. Calhoun, William Tecumseh Sherman

The bottom six hanging on the wall: Ludwig van Beethoven, Antonio Canova, John Keats, Hyrum Smith, Joseph Smith, Jean-Paul Marat

The next highest six: Franz Liszt, Napoleon Bonaparte (well, maybe), Frederick the Great, George Washington, William Blake, Oliver Cromwell

The next highest five: Jeremy Bentham, Aaron Burr, Friedrich Nietzsche, Edward Kean, Ulysses S. Grant

And the top row: Jonathan Swift, Maria Malibran, David Garrick, Thomas Paine, and Thomas Moore.

OK.  I hadn't read far enough.  Interesting grouping.

Well... Since tomorrow is supposed to be a relative dry and rain-free day, my plan is to take advantage of that fact, and spend a good chunk of it outside.  And I'm still toying with the idea of heading down to the Apple Store to wait in line with my friend.  In any case... Sleep would be a good thing regardless.

Goodnight.

OK folks here are some random thoughts about Monday's reading of The First Nudie Musical. I know it was a reading and not staged. But I did like it.

I have seen the film and I enjoyed the stage version as much and even more in some places. The people I was with enjoyed the show and the audience were laughing and enjoying the songs.

The program did not list the songs and therefore some of them are on a best guess basis,

“Porno Business” is the first new song and very enjoyable. I especially like the word play/rhyme scheme and judging by the audience reaction they like the song as well.

Niki Scalera who plays Rosie has a good voice and her comic timing is very good too, She has a couple of solos but I can't read my notes for the name for the first. I would like to see more of her character in the show. Her other solo is I Don't Need Fireworks. I think this can be a breakout song and might just become a staple for cabaret acts.

I enjoyed the performance of Russ Hobbie as George Brenner. As BK mentioned before he really does remind one of Alan Abalew from the film, but Alan’s tongue was a lot shorter. The audience seemed to appreciate Hobbie’s performance and the use of his tongue.

I thought the performance of Michael Irish as John Smithee was quite good. He didn't quite have the same charm as Bruce had in the film, but he has a lot of potential if he continues with the role.

Act Two started with Previsions and the stage version is more amusing than its counterpart in the film. I liked the parade of Previsions and would like to see more of them. The more perverse the better.

The Stunt C*ck scene worked very well and it is too bad the ensemble member who played Schlong was not identified in program and for the other roles he played. I thought he stood out among the ensemble players.

The stage version of Eunice is written somewhat different from the film and I liked changes made for the character. Robin Shelby did a good job. She has her own song; different from the film version

Harrison White was great as Dick Davis and I am glad to see that they are going to write more material for him. Some members were screaming with laughter with all the song ditties he came up with.

What can I say about Alet Taylor? This is the third show that I have seen her that Bruce has done (What If? & The Brain From Planet X are the other two) She is so good. She can take any material and run with it. I wish she had other songs to sing. I love her!!

What else??

Barry Pearl who played Eddie did a fun job and the character is better developed in the stage version than the movie. There needs to be a character who is the stumbling block from Harry succeeding. Eddie is that character.

Perhaps he needs to be more of a comic villain. I would like to see him throw in more pitfalls so Harry won’t succeed, but Harry still does. I also liked the running gag of  Eddie's visions of what business he would put in the mall instead of the studio.

Oh yes. I liked that Rosie sings in Let Them Eat Cake.

And I do miss I Don't Have To Hide Anymore. (The end title song in the film) but sadly it doesn't fit into this version.

I am looking forward to seeing the next reading in NYC and see where it goes to next.

I really liked it. I had a good time. My friends enjoyed and the audience around me seemed to like it to judging by the applause and laughter.

So to all the NYCers and nearby residents come see it when it comes to NYC next fall

Thanks, Michael.  Just for clarity sake - the little musical prologue is called The Porno Business.  "I Don't Need Fireworks" is actually titled Simply.  Even though written for the stage Nudie, I also used it in What If.

bk, are the Dancing Dildo's in the stage production.  That song is infectious and dangerous as it's something you can't go around singing in public (even by accident!)
