I'm sure you would not like to have to defend anyone on this.

If you have Romaine lettuce at home, you better read this http://cnnwire.blogs.cnn.com/2009/07/23/california-company-recalls-romaine-lettuce/

Funny you should say that, I started to write that I'm really glad I work for myself now and have the ability to say no to any case I don't want.  I didn't have that luxury when I worked at the Maricopa Co. PD or even the Federal defender's office

I'm helping the father of a 3 year old who was brutally sexually assaulted in the home while the family slept.  They caught the guy who did it.  I am very happy to be helping the father with immigration issues rather than the defendant.

Oh gees, I didn't complete the sentence, she was also murdered. It's very very sad. The entire community has embraced the family.  I think they are still in shock about it

Speaking of jumping ahead, I was wondering what people thought about GHOST WHISPERER jumping ahead five years, and including a five year old child who may or may not have powers.

Is this really jumping ahead, or is it jumping the shark?

My initial reaction was that I didn't like the idea at all. But, I didn't initially like the idea that formed the crux of most of this season either (the death of Jim) and it ended up being beautifully handled and often quite moving, so I'll reserve judgment until I see what they do with the concept.

TOnight I deemed the evening of "making of documentaries." I began by finishing up the making of documentary for MARNIE which I still had a good bit more to watch. At least they were honest about the initial reaction to the film. Robin Wood's final comment (You can't like Hitchcock if you don't like MARNIE and you don't love movies if you don't love MARNIE) is baloney, but otherwise it's an interesting documentary.

Next I watched the making-of documentary for THE MAN WHO KNEW TOO MUCH. Not much there I didn't already know, but still OK.

Next I watched the making of documentary for SHADOW OF A DOUBT. Nice to hear from Teresa Wright who starred.

I found out yesterday that the company that laid me off has since been forced to cut the salaries of the employees that remain by 20% in order to try to stay in business.        :-\

And in news from my former employer:

"Also on Wednesday the library board approved a plan to offer early retirement buyouts to employees. Workers would get a $5,000 lump sum payment and 35 percent of their accrued sick leave balance, up to 800 hours. Kambitsch said the buyout will cost as much as $200,000 but should help reduce payroll."

When I groaned that it was a year late, Richard (the wise one in the family) asked if the grief that they've gone through in the past several months would have been worth $5000 to me.  Guess not.

I truly hope that some of my friends who are eligible are smart enough to take it and - RUN!

Washington state employees can buy back 25% of their sick leave when they retire (I don't know if there's a cap).  Where I work, we can't...yet.  I'm hoping that by the time I retire (in about 23 years), they'll have changed that policy. ;)

Then I watched the making-of documentary for DIAL 'M' FOR MURDER. I HATE it when Peter Bogdanovich tries to do impressions of people. He tries to do a Hitchcock impression, and it's just ridiculous.

Nice to get continuity straight in my mind, though. For some reason, I thought Grace Kelly made REAR WINDOW before DIAL 'M' but it's just the opposite.

And now, I'm off to watch the latest episode of "Torchwood: Children of Earth!" :D

...and "Royal Pains" and something else that I set my DVR to record, but I can't remember what it is, right now.

Until later!

Next I watched last night's LEVERAGE which was a pretty good episode. Their caper falls apart midway through the hour and they have to scramble to pull something off. That was interesting. Of course, in the second half, the audience isn't privy to what they're up to any more than the folks that are being conned.

TORCHWOOD - Part 4 came next.

Tense and ultimately tragic, numbing. Took the heart right out of me.

I watched the 15-minute behind-the-scenes featurette afterwards

Yes, no one is paying me. I just figured it was the right thing to do

They also had a Trailer donated to them by someone so they could move out of the house.  Home depot donated all the materials to fix it up, someone donated an alarm system so they can sleep at night, others have donated other things.

Did the chinchy bassa break into the house, or was it someone they knew?

Both. They knew him and were trying to help him out.  He wasn't staying with them. He broke in.  The 5 year old brother pretended he was asleep, but then was able to identify the guy.  That's how they got him so quickly.  The dad is putting on a strong exterior, but he is having a lot of problems dealing with it. Not only did he know this person, but he didn't wake up and wasn't able to protect his daughter.

Thank you.

Thanks for this, but it's one of those things, when I was asked  and told that they may be able to raise funds for my fees, I just didn't feel right about taking the money.  I'd rather see any funds raised go to the family.   It's something i could do to help that others really didn't know how to do.
