So...
I managed to get down to Pike Street in plenty of time to catch my 3:00 bus down to Richmond. That was good.
Then it turned out that my 3:00 bus left at 2:56. That was also good. However, as we drove through the next intersection, I noticed a man with some luggage standing off to the side of the road, looking at the bus, and holding up three fingers, with a question mark in his face. Not good for him, I guess.
Then we pulled up by Penn Station for the midtown pick-up. And that's when the fun began.
There were plenty of people waiting on the sidewalk, many more people than could fit on the bus. The driver even radio'd for another bus to come before she finished pulling into the space. After letting some people on the bus, and telling a whole slew of others to wait for the next one, we began our trip...
We traveled two blocks and stopped. For a while. Then another block. Then another half block. Then we finally entered the Lincoln Tunnel. The journey from Penn Station to the Jersey side of the Lincoln Tunnel, took about an hour. Normally, that should have taken about ten minutes. Then came the traffic on the NJ Turnpike. A Friday rush hour, coupled with a rain storm, and a few accidents, well... My bus should have pulled into Richmond around 10:00. Instead I arrived in Richmond around 11:40.
Thankfully, we had a good driver, and there were some entertaining and not too chatty folks on the bus. But, boy, was I glad when we finally arrived at Boulevard and Broad.
Freedom!
