Sorry to add to the "litany of woe" a certain DR complained about, but I could use some major vibage--I have had a tender knee for months, which I just racked up to age and the fact that I walk so many miles for exercise each day.  Well, something major happened last night.  Suddenly I literally could not bend my right knee without an amazingly sharp and painful twinge shooting down the right side of my calf.  I got no sleep last night and am off to an emergency appointment with my clinic.  This could not have happened at a worse time.

Truly lousy timing.  Vibes you are ok for the Bar Mitzvah, and after!

I've had it, too, and as you and other DRs can confirm, it's NO FUN.

I actually rode my bike for the first time in about 3 weeks. Between my lower back and being sick i just did not have the energy.

The temps this week are very hot and sunny and humid. But the ride was great!

My right lower back is still not healed. But it's fine most of the time (except when i try to lift something). So i just put the bike pack in my basket instead of resting on my back. And my back did not hurt at all during the ride!

Maybe you should always leave your bike pack in the basket.  Glad you are feeling better.

So many of us are having pain problems that I am afraid to get up off my butt and move.

ROTFLOL!  That is how I feel about returning to exercising & using the weights in the garage.  If I don't do it I don't hurt.  I don't mind normal sore muscles from exercise when they mean I'm making progress.  My muscles don't react normally & just constantly hurt.  I really need to buck up & get used to the pain again, exercise is so good for the bones.

I remember it George.  That always bugged me too.  Some friends of my parents had the piano player roll of itsy bitsy teeny weeny yellow polka dot bikini, so we used to play and sing it when we went over there.

I loved our player piano and was kind of bummed when my mom sold it.  Has anyone else had one?

We have a modern version, it plays discs.

Friends of my parents, when I was growing up, had a huge old player piano, with a collection of rolls.  Oh, how I loved to go over to that house and play them!!!!!

Good Evening!

So... Over the course of the past couple of hours...

-I had lunch with a concert pianist.
-And then was treated to an impromptu performance by said concert pianist.
-Took a nice walk around the Upper West Side.
-Enjoyed a Frozen "Wicked" (spicy) Hot Chocolate at Jacques Torres.
-Walked into the middle of photo-shoot and press event for AnnaLynne McCord at the Time-Warner Center. I had no idea who she was/is, but it was interesting to note that more paparazzi were in attendance than fans.
-Stopped back into Casellula to say, "Hi," to Tia, their fromager. She had been away for a couple of days at the American Cheese Society Conference. Wine (a quite refreshing grüner veltliner), cheeses (smoked ricotta and a edam-style sheep's milk cheese), pickled purple okra and garlic scapes, roasted bone marrow, goat's milk dulce de leche, chocolate truffles... YUM!
-And it turned out that the two gentlemen sitting next to me at the bar were two major figures in NYC's food scene: one a cheese "shaman" (I came up with that term for him - he's going to add it to his business cards), and the other one is a well-known and well-respected food writer who's currently with "Gourmet" magazine.  Needless to say, the conversation was amazing!!!

So... I guess I don't feel so bad about not making it to Philadelphia today after all.

Thanks for the good wishes, folks. I am slightly encouraged after seeing the doctor today. Oh, the diagnosis was upsetting, but if it means some relief, I don't care even if I end up being one of the 10% who need an operation to correct the problem.

I have (he thinks) a herniated disc in my neck. And MRI will reveal much, and I'm waiting for the call to schedule that to be done.

Meanwhile, I've started on steroids for the pain.

DR MattH, I had 2 herniated discs in my neck pressing on my spinal cord in 1999. By the time my HMO sent me for the MRI in October, I had seen every specialist they could recommend over a period of two months while I stumbled and became more incapacitated till I could hardly walk. When I would swallow food, the esophagus expanded, the disc pressed on my spinal cords and my leg twitched.

Yeah, but you were a lot of fun during sex!

My doctor's office called the office and told them my blood work was fine and I should call to schedule my colonoscopy.   There are several problems with this.  One, I specifically told them not to leave messages at my office. Two, I didn't do any blood work when I went to the doctor, and three I was supposed to do a sonogram of my gallbladder not a colonoscopy.    I decided not to do either and will call if I have any more problems

Maybe you should call them and let them know they mixed up patient files.

I was going to say the same thing, plus they should flag your chart not to call at work.  I have the opposite problem, I say please leave messages at home & they don't.

My parents were looking to buy their first house when I was almost 9 years old.  When they walked down the basement steps of one my dad said, "SOLD!" because of the player piano.  We lived in that house until I graduated from high school.

One of the first mysteries they solved after we moved in was how the piano got down there, given the configuration of the stairway.  Neighbors told my dad that the previous owners had taken the piano apart in the driveway, taken the pieces downstairs, and reassembled the piano at the bottom of the steps.

We had great fun with the piano rolls and my dad played for relaxation.  He'd never had training, but played the way Scott Houston, the Piano Guy, teaches on PBS.  They left the piano behind when we moved to the Detroit 'burbs and, the last we heard, subsequent owners hacked it up for firewood

DR Jennifer headsets likely worked as well as ear plugs.  Ouch, to do that with a migraine. 

I have always been given, without asking, ear plugs.  Some were better than others.  I suggest testing them a bit first or asking for two sets of ear plugs or additional cotton or something.  I also take a very mild tranquilizer before doing an MRI.  Of course that requires someone drive you.

And when I got home, I found a very wonderful surprise from my roommate, Megan.  She had gone to the last "Broadway In Bryant Park" presentation earlier this afternoon.  It turned out the Matthew Morrison made a surprise, guest appearance. So, she grabbed me an extra set of these:

I tried "native" on the DVR but it didn't fix the TCM stretch.  I'm pack to pillarbox as a setting and that seems to work.  My HD channels are widescreen, as they should be, and everything else is pillarboxed.
