Sadly the economy is bad there just like everywhere else.  Lots of stores were closing at 70% off sales.  The restaurants were all busy as I walked through La Jolla.

Sad.

I know this will sound really weird.  Last year I just could not take waking up with my back hurting anymore so I started sleeping on the floor (sort of the Japanese version).  No more backache in all this time.  The hotel had this incredible bed you just wanted to snuggle into for TV, room service, and sleep.  I woke up with a backache, back to sleeping on the floor for me.

I always thought firm beds were better for your back & preferred them.  Now I find I do better with a softer bed, not too soft that it caves in.  A hard bed makes my back hurt more.

We got some. Didn't last too long, though. Summer storms come and go quickly and dramatically.

Lots of review stuff arrived today. I got the next three Criterion items for September: THAT HAMILTON WOMAN, Mamet's HOMICIDE, and a three part THE HUMAN CONDITION movie set. I also got the next season of CRIMINAL MINDS.

All of these things come out on September 8. Oy! Next week is going to be BUSY!

So, DR Matt H, I think I've asked you this before but i am curious: are you obligated to review everything you are sent or can you pick and chose? I have an acquaintance who reviews AMERICAN RECORD GUIDE; he used to get 30-40 CDs a month and would maybe review 3 or 4 at the most.

LOL! I do remember your asking before, but I also remember answering before!

I am pretty much obligated to review what I'm sent OR make arrangements to have it covered by someone else on the staff. We send links of our reviews to the publicity departments of the studios we're assigned, and if they don't get them, they eventually cut off the review copies.

BK - How much is the new book and how much is the postage?  And do we have a title?

I got five more episodes of THE UNTOUCHABLES watched. I found myself nodding off during several of them. It's not that they're dull, but the formula is SO rigid for these shows that There isn't that much new to see show after show other than the great array of guest stars who continue to show up.

I have watched exactly half the episodes, so I have eight more to watch tomorrow. There are no bonus features with the set, so I'll be done once I watch the shows.

My friend John went to see ALTAR BOYZ tonight and dropped by after the show to tell me about it. I just ached too much to feel comfortable sitting in a seat watching a show. Watching TV, I was up and down, stretching, bend, trying to find comfortable positions, not the kind of thing I could do with people around you in the theater.

When he left, I watched PROJECT RUNWAY. I certainly agreed with who was sent home.

Oh, how I envy you! I suspect we've got another month at least of upper 80s/lower 90s temperatures.
