Finally back from the session, and picking up packages (the UPS Store was open late tonight for some reason), putting gas in the motor car, and then lugging in a few boxes of Bank Shot which arrived early today instead of tomorrow morning (boxes were put in the garage). I'm quite exhausted but am craving a sweet. For lunch I had a California chicken wrap and a teeny-tiny Caesar salad so I'll definitely eat something at some point.

It was a terrific day - the overdubs of percussion and reeds went well, although, that said, I hate doing overdubs, especially when there's no click track. But it all went smoothly and sounds really good. Then Brent came and we began doing final vocals - our friend Jessica Drake and her cute as pie daughter Melina dropped in for a while, and that was fun. We shot video, and the entire day could not have run smoother. Brent got seven final vocals (out of the twelve), but my memory of The Christmas Song was that his scratch vocal was just about perfect, so we put that up and played it and it wasn't "just" about perfect, it WAS perfect, so that only leaves four songs for tomorrow. We start at noon and we should be done by two or three at the latest, which is grander than grand news. Brent did stellar work today - he's one of my favorites to work with because he listens, understands, and does. We always do a take, and then I make a few tiny comments, then we do a couple more and that usually does it. He really knows how to take the tiny comments and implement them and make them his own. It's going to be a lovelier than lovely album.

Actually, this WAS DRUNKEN MASTER II. It was renamed THE LEGEND OF DRUNKEN MASTER for its American release in 2000. (It was a 1994 film.) The American version of the film (which is a slightly different cut from the original movie) is what Disney is releasing on Blu-ray.

Thanks, BK, for the update! I told Chris I thought he might need a click track for "Christmas Mornings," and he said the drums would keep everything together. That was the only one I was worried about.

I returned to one of my tried and true comfort films - THE WIZARD OF OZ. I've been revisiting it a lot lately. I'm not quite sure why. It may be that I'm feeling my mortality more these days. I don't know. But I do keep getting drawn back to it.

I watched some NCIS episodes from Season 2's first disc. I watched these quite a while ago and they aren't all that familiar watching them again tonight. Very enjoyable.

Then I watched tonight's SUPERNATURAL. Engrossing (and somewhat gross) episode, some frightening and some funny parts. Misha Collins' Castiel is as appealing as ever, and Mark Pelligrino as Lucifer....be still my heart!

I enjoyed much of CLEAR BLUE TUESDAY, and I liked the cast. There were a couple of problems I had and perhaps they will be addressed when the film gets a distributor. I had a couple of surprises: my colleague Curtis Moore wrote the film score. He might have told me a while ago and I forgot that, but he's a good composer and I thought his music was sometimes better than the songs by cast members. I still get teary over 9/11.

It was a nice surprise to see Kelli O'Hara and get a hug. Her husband Greg Naughton plays a business man who falls apart after 9/11 and ends up homeless on the street. I liked his storyline the best and I think it has a hole in its structure near the end of the film.

It's like a ticking sound that goes to the musicians when recording - it sets up a steady beat for the song, so that if there are overdubs at a later date, the new musicians hear the click and know exactly the rhythm and timing of the music, whereas with no click, overdubs are flying by the seat of your pants because rhythm can vary, there can be tempo changes galore and some of them quite subtle, so it takes a lot longer for a player to lock to the track.
