Hey when is the NYC production of DOCTOR ATOMIC coming out on DVD?  I am tired of watching that production from the West Coast....

DR JRand - Alas, it's still "in the hopper"... :-\

The Netherlands rather, I guess it is....although the Blu Ray of that production is available for $28.....

...And then that production traveled to Los Angeles, so... It's "West Coast" by association.

Thanks DRs Matt H, DAW, & Ginny.   I feel about the same as I did yesterday.  At least I don’t feel worse.

I must say that I cannot recommend highly enough the Kritzerland release THE NIGHT THEY RAID MINKSY'S/GAILY GAILY.....

Such fun music.....and all of the songs I remembered are there.  And it sounds great.  GAILY GAILY is a terrific typical Mancini score with some interesting orchestrations....and a song from Lehman Engel's one-eyed Turkish prostitute.

And MINSKY'S has the funny music AND songs....and some of the patter...."You go to your closet and get your ascot....."

".....little Chubby Drysdale....the girl with the two....twinkling eyes!"

I have yet to see my first opera. Perhaps on my next trip to NYC I will include that in my itinerary.

Oh, God, now I have to hope and pray there's an opera production with naked bodybuilders when he next terrifies visits the City! Otherwise he'll snore and embarrass me.

You could teach DR MB the score beforehand so he could sing along.

And/Or you could just go with a Korngold Opera: Die Tote Stadt.

I'm going back to work today after 5 days off. The time off seemed to help a lot. The Swelling as gone down, don't need the cane to help me walk. back and hip don't hurt. Still some pain in the neck and leg, but it's tolerable. Besides I'm bored and want to go to work.

I didn't have a great night. No pain at all, but after I woke up sometime after 2 a.m., I had a hard time finding a comfortable position to sleep more than a couple of hours at a clip. Still got 6 1/2 hours, but they were very checkered by waking and shifting, the kind of nights I HATE.

I thought that was the subtitle for "How To Write An Opera For Dummies"?

I'm home. I have to take Callie to the vet at 10:00 AM.  She threw up her medicine and then had litter box problems this morning.  She went and hid down the basement.   She's slowly coming around.  She came upstairs a few minutes ago and is moving slowly, but seems to be a bit better.  Hopefully the vet won't find anything serious.

I wish I had been paying attention & recorded the correct showing.  I'm not watching on my computer & I've lost Keith now.  Oh well, maybe we will catch the re-runs.

Am I correct the premier episode was not as good as the pilot?

I was frustrated by the twitting tweeting, too, but I was able to record the extended "director's cut" pilot.  Anyone want a copy??

Now I pretty much love all opera.  I didn't really like it all that much until I started to study voice in college; suddenly, I appreciated what it was that singers were doing!

Ditto!  I've posted this before but one of the absolute best opera experiences that I had was Benjamin Britten's "Turn of the Screw" at Vancouver Opera when I was in college.  It was absolutely riveting.  We also saw a wonderful production of "La Boheme" there.

One of my favorite opera films is "Tosca" with Plácido Domingo, Raina Kabaivanska and Sherrill Milnes.  It was filmed in the actual places where the opera takes place and at the times of day that it's all supposed to happen.  That's pretty cool. :)
