Here's a photo of the 1946 Royal Ballet production. There aren't enough Messel designs on line:

That is quite stunning!

I suppose I'm up, because I suppose the oafs are making a ruckus - I think they're laying cement on the side of the house, and doing the pool now - after that happens I can't imagine there's much that's left to do - and then they'll move in, and from there we shall see what happens.

Favorite 20th century artist would be Albert Callis who did some of the most fantastic movie posters ever!

One of my favorite contemporary artists is Karen Horn.  Here is one of her still lifes, painted - believe it or not - entirely in watercolor:

TOD

God there is so many artists out there. Both known and unknown.

Our family has owned an art gallery for over 30 years and I have had the pleasure to see many great artist pass through our gallery. Many who have gone on to great fame in Canada and elsewhere.

I have been honored to have had two pieces of art to be made specially for me. One for my 13th birthday by Norman Laliberte and one for my 50th by Leonardo Creo.

Wonderful story! :)  How lucky & interesting for you.

I can't help but think that if I had bothered to go grocery shopping yesterday when I should have, I would have something at home to make for breakfast today.

;D  That would have helped.

It is nice to see you posting again. :)

DR Vixmom, what a pleasant surprise the radiation improved your eyes, if only your hearing had improved as well.

DR Michael S. I saved the YouTube link for later & will attempt to protest it.

This cat is funny: http://video.yahoo.com/network/100284668?v=5938681&l=3774740

The link has multiple videos on it, I hope the "cat takes a bath" was still there.  I also watched a cute one of a dog who likes to use the slide.

Well, my theatre attendance is beginning to line up. It will be a nice break from the chaos at the office.

In two weeks I will be seeing The Royal Family (part of Manhattan Theatre Club's season) with the wonderful Rosemary Harris. I love this show and I ADORE Rosemary Harris.

The next day I will see Wishful Drinking, the Carrie Fisher autobiographical show. It's part of Roundabout's seaon and it's being done at Studio 54.

On October 12 I will be seeing Dear Larry's production of Finian's Rainbow.

I also have to arrage with Larry to see Vigil. It's been so hectic that things keep falling off the radar.

I need to get tickets to Bye Bye Birdie and A Steady Rain. Part of me wants to see Jude Law in Hamlet but part of me doesn't give a rat's patootie. Superior Donuts is on and off TDF so I should jump the next time I see it. Memphis is always up so I can get a cheapie for that (I don't have much interest but if it's cheap or free I'll do it). I'm very excited about Ragtime. I love it anc look forward to seeing it. I will probably see the revivals of Brighton Beach and Broadway Bound. I am looking forward to Addams Family but I am not looking forward at all to Spider Man. If it opens and there are $50 rear balcony seats I will see it but I have negative desire to sit through a comic-book fantasy on stage with nothing but special effects. I don't wish ill to any show but part of me wants it to be the biggest flop in Broadway history, then perhaps they will stop this madness and go back to producing real shows.

Awaiting the arrival of she of the Evil Eye - her usual parking space in front of the house is not there - there are three trucks there, of course, because heaven forbid they should park on the street where they're actually doing the work.

Break even more legs tonight, Jack.  And put  some hunky naked guy in the window seat for Mortimer's reaction.

Oh, and wear your scar (the title of my next novel).

Saturday morning afternoon greetings!  Our household slept in today and now we're gearing up for college football.  Richard and I will watch a double-header on TV:  Michigan vs. Notre Dame followed by Ohio State vs. USC.  Rob and Mary Linda are going to University of Cincinnati's home opener tonight against SE Missouri State.

Last night included one of those horrible moments.....that happen onstage.....

Mortimer and I are onstage with our Aunts - the Brewster sisters.  I give the cue line - and Officer O'Hara knocks on the door to start the next sequence.

Cue line.  No Knock.   You wait those few seconds for it - and then realize that the idiot has NO idea that he is supposed to be on.  You wait a few seconds more and you realize that your idiot stage manager is not on book or paying any attention, but is instead sitting at her laptop playing a game - as she has been all night - and that the rest of the cast is watching on the monitor and wondering why no one is talking.

We ad libbed a bit - I could NOT leave the stage.  And then Martha grabbed the hats from the table and said something about taking them into the kitchen - hopefully to find the fool.

An eternity later, dumb ass came in.....that kind of thing just takes my energy and really is hard for me to recover from.  We did....but we lost the audience.....who knew SOMETHING was wrong....oh well.....

What a horrible story, DR JRand59!  Break a leg tonight, and, for a souvenir of the production after the show, break the laptop over the stage manager's head.

DR Elmore - this story reminded me of Miss Brown missing her entrance at the end Act I, Scene 1 of Look Homeward, Angel.  Ailing Ben is asleep in his bed, Helen's sitting at his bedside dozing and Eugene is waiting to be vamped by Miss Brown's "Pony Boy" song.

DR JRand - did your director come backstage at intermission demanding to know "What the h*** happened out there?"  And did you and the cast give the performance of your lives for the rest of the show to earn his gratitude?

Best wishes to A&OL on your final performances!

I have one of these, too.  I played the Grand Inquisitor in The Lark, by Jean Anouilh (sp?).  As you may know, the GI sits there for the entire play, and then delivers a gigantic (like, 10-15 minute) monologue at the end of the play, after which the henchman comes in and leads Joan of Arc to her fate.  Well, I sat there and then delivered my monologue and then of course no henchman.  Gave my cue again.  No henchman.  Made a quick decision and ad libbed something to one of the "church officials" and told them to take Joan off to her little roasting party.  After the show went back and discovered (are you ready?), the henchman had missed his cue because, as he appeared on stage shirtless, he had been drawing chest hair on his chest with an eyebrow pencil.
