I notice the good news that WB finally has release Casablanca as a single release without all the things found oin the gift box. I rather just have the movie instead what they have to offer. BUT it took them 9 months to do so.

NOW
If they can do the same thing for The Wizard of Oz and Gone With the Wind. Both of these films should look spectacular in Hi Def.

TWOZ is being release this Tuesday and only in the gift box if one wants it in BR. Gone With the WInd sometime in November I believe and also in a gift box. I hope we won't have to wait 9 months for these to show up as just disc release.

I hope they don't do this to Ben-Hur. What can they offer in a gift box. A replica of tickets to the chariot race? A replica of the chains that Ben-Hur wore in the galley? Don't need it!!

TOD:

Music-  Sergio Mendez, Karen Morrow's fantastic version of "Who Gave You Permission?" some of theless sappy selections from the soundtrack of "Sound of Music,"  "She Loves Me" (revival), "I'm Here" (FROM "BUS AND TRUCK"  "Harlow" soundtrack

Movies-- "Big Eden,"  "Office Space," "Miss Pettigrew Lives For a Day," "Shampoo," and the very unnecessary re-make of "Good bye Girl.'

It's rumored that a shoe may drop today but no one knows anything for certain.

Hopefully it won't be a steel-toed work boot!

Wow! I can see almost all of my floor again. The shelves are looking good and I'm very pleased. I need to go through sections like the music papers and the orchestration books later in the weekend and get them organized. The scores look realy good at the moment and everything's fitting in okay. I will keep pulling things for the Miami U Library as I go along.

I have a couple more hours of cleanup on the apartment before I begin the cleanup of me. Now that it's past 9 am I can vacuum. I hate to vacuum too early and disturb the lady in the apartment below mine. I hope I have a new vacuum bag under the sink.

You can get both THE WIZARD OF OZ and GONE WITH THE WIND on Blu-ray from Amazon.uk. without all the doo-dads. Warners BDs play in all BD players, and the price of the two together from the UK plus shipping is cheaper that the Amazon price on one of the special boxes here. Many people are doing this.

Good morning!

Still overcast and we had a little rain in sprinkles during the night. The road was a bit damp on my work to PT, but no big puddles, so I know it didn't rain much.

Wow, DR Elmore, with all this clean-up in your apartment, maybe there will be room for me to stay indoors next time I visit you!

PT this morning was the most vigorous workout I've had since I started there. Some very long stretching sections and a final (somewhat painful) one on the floor balanced on a foam pole that was unusual to say the least.

I go again Monday morning.

I have a horror movie for my work project today and one for tomorrow. Today's is WRONG TURN. It has some good actors in it, but it looks like the kind of movie I usually loathe. However, maybe I'll be surprised like I was with THE RUINS.

I may be going to a local production of MASTER CLASS tonight. Best friend John is checking into ticket availability. It's being done in a small space, so it may be SRO already. I'll know later this morning.

I didn't see THE RUINS but I liked the book very much. I think A SIMPLE PLAN is still the best thing he's written.

So, DR MattH, do you think the physical therapy is helping?

I'm listening to McGlinn's wonderful recording of Kern's glorious show, SITTING PRETTY, which is one of his best. Right now, Jason Graae is singing the very funny and very un-PC "In Bongo on the Congo" with its fantastic orchestration. I think it's right next to his SHOW BOAT in his recording work.

Dear Larry, here's to a moving and fun-filled memorial (that's what I would want anyway). These are hard things but with you involved it will be quite wonderful, I'm sure.

Hugs and good thoughts to you during this time (from me AND Anthony)!!!

Is the PT helping? Sometimes when I get home after it, I feel relaxed and really good. Today, I'm feeling achy and tight in my back and hand. So, the definitive answer is: it varies.

The exercises they give me for "homework" do give me a sense of working to help myself, and I guess over the long haul it will have been worth it. I know now I can drive in the car without feeling like my right arm is going to drop off, and sitting watching movies doesn't require my getting into some ridiculous looking contortions in order to minimize pain.

Progress is happening, but it's slow, slow, slow.

Hmmm...somehow I lost a post in which I gushed about the film of Richard Strauss's opera ELEKTRA that I watched last night.

Long story, short:  it was as stunning as I remembered it.  If you like your opera to grab you by the collar and repeatedly smack you across the face with its drama, this one is for you!

Did a wonderful interview last night with actor Rad Fulton (aka James Westmoreland) who starred in a number of terrific films including NO MY DARLING DAUGHTER (opposite Juliet Mills), JOY RIDE, THE UNDERTAKER AND HIS PALS, and JOURNEY BENEATH THE DESERT as well as a small part opposite his girlfriend at the time, Natalie Wood, in MARJORIE MORNINGSTAR as well as being a regular on THE MONROES and GENERAL HOSPITAL.
