TOD:

Definately all the jazz greats--

Coleman Hawkins
Lester Young
Charlie Parker
Miles Davis

Also enjoy Paul Desmond, along with
Dave Brubeck
George Winston
Chet Baker
David Sanborn
Yo Yo Ma
Claude Bolling
Jean-Pierre Rampal
W.G. Snuffy Walden

Haven't quite made up my mind yet about trumpeter Chris Botti, but he sure is easy on the eyes...

Tonight on TCM at 10 p.m. EST, there is a movie that may be of interest to some DR's.

The preview titled it THE NIGHT DIGGER, the listings have it as THE ROAD BUILDER.

It is a 1977 English thriller with Miss Patricia Neal (THE DAY THE EARTH STOOD STILL ) - and Mr Nicholas Clay (EVIL UNDER THE SUN) - with a possibility of about 10 minutes of an undraped Mr. Clay at the end of the movie.

Unless, of course, you were counting on being a wealthy widow.

Alas, that was never in the cards.           :)

DR Laura, Donny Osmond was very good last night!

I find i'm enjoying him more than his sister (could be because he is a much better dancer than she was).

I've been wondering, as TCM begins to delve further and further into the latter part of the last century, exactly how far they will cross the line as far as airing films with adult content without any censorship.  So far, they've left films like NETWORK and PHILADELPHIA pretty much intact, though those were aired at later hours.  Time and Osbourne will tell, I guess...

TOD:  SW Ohio favorite - guitarist Jim McCutcheon.  He's a regular at Middfest, our local international cultural festival that's coming up this weekend featuring Indonesia.  We always try to catch at least one of his performances, especially the ones in the city commission  chamber - great acoustics!  One year, Richard, Rob, and I encountered Jim practicing in the parking garage - he's as personable as he is talented.

In 2003, the year of Ohio's bicentennial, the now-defunct Miami University public radio station produced a series of bicentennial minutes for which Jim did the background music.  The tune was always "Beautiful Ohio," but he stylized it to match the mood of each vignette.  When the topic was ladybugs, the music was playful; when it was Civil War casualties, it was somber.

I am hoping that today Netflix will send me FRANKENSTEIN MEETS THE SPACE MONSTER.

In case you may have missed this film upon it's original 1960s release, here is the trailer. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O9It2mr5hP8

Hmmm...this movie is in Futurama--I don't think my DVD player can handle those kind of films.

Heading down now to watch (finally!) that last Brett/Holmes adventure from THE CASE-BOOK, and then see if I can get through DESPERATE HOUSEWIVES before starting lunch or not.

I watched 10 episodes of THE PATTY DUKE SHOW last night.  It was more fun than I remembered.  It looks pretty good - and the cast is fine.  The technical work is actually better than is thought.  There is always only ONE scene in each show that features both cousins in the same shot as played by Patty.  And the face of Patty's double is in evidence clearly a couple of times in some episodes.....

But it's a lot of fun - although Patty's hair is definitely out of control in some sequences.  Breck!

Well, it's Tuesday.  The little one (Manny) decided he wanted out this morning and wouldn't stop whining until he went out, so I'm up early on my last day of somewhat leisure before work begins tomorrow and continues up to seconds before we leave Sunday eve.

At the moment, I'm feeling better, which is such a good thing.  Today, after a meeting with the Pastor, the Youth Minister, and another musician in the Parish (who drives me CRAZY) I'll go for a bike ride and then head home for the evening.

I am wondering if "blowing sweet" is a bk-ism, or if that is generally accepted jazz terminology.        ???

Meant to mention this yesterday...

They've been setting up right across the street from my office building for some location shooting of the James L Brooks movie that's been filming around town this summer.  I need to keep my eyes open for appearances by Jack Nicholson, Reese Witherspoon, Owen Wilson and Paul Rudd.

I really do need to get myself a new camera...

The oafs are back and noisier than ever.  I just don't get it - they were DONE.  And now they are not.  I mean, there is furniture in the house, paintings on the wall, and yet they are using an electric saw and hammering and it's just nuts.
