Well, you've read the notes, you understand the derivation of kumquat, and now it is time for you to post until the cows come home - they're currently eating kumquats and having a high old time.

Topic of the Day:  in my CD player at work:  The Real Ambassadors, legally downloaded (and paid for!) from Amazon.com.  The physical disc is no longer available, and used copies are too expensive.  $9.99 is the regular price, but sometime last month, I "earned" (and I don't know why or how) a $1 credit/coupon for any MP3 download.  So, since I had just seen the Dave Brubeck Quartet live, I thought that I'd get this.  It was originally supposed to be a jazz musical, but never really went beyond the recording.  Also on the recording are Louis Armstrong And His Band; Carmen McRae and Lambert, Hendricks and Ross. :D

After The Real Ambassadors, The Manhattan Transfer's brand new CD, The Chick Corea Album is supposed to be delivered today.  It's their first new studio album in five years.  Listening to audio clips, it sounds very eclectic and the kind of CD that I will LOVE!!  I don't know Chick Corea's music at all, so it's all new music to me. ;D

Good morning, all! I just sent Amazon.com an email asking where the hell my review had gone to, and I hope they haven't lost it, which is what I suspect. Yesterday, my morning and afternoon were quite a lot of fun, but it became a weird period after 6 pm: my cell phone refused to make calls claiming that there was no service and my email was returning my sent mails on the grounds that my return address was incorrect. When I called Time Warner to investigate the problem, I had a long wait because, clearly, other customers were having problems last night. That got me wondering if a tower or some sort of signal-receiving object had been bombed or knocked down becausae my email is Time Warner and my cell phone is Verizon and not interrelated. I still have no idea where the hell my September rent check has gone to and I'm wondering if some idiot at the US Postal Service accidentally ground it to a pulp in some postage sorting machine; I've received too many plastic bags from the US PO containing a scrap of a catalog or letter that they've managed to destroy. Then, I was up and down most of the night with an upset stomach, meaning I'll be drowsy all afternoon today. I did go ahead and post my health insurance premium yesterday so I'm hoping some payment from FR or the recording check arrives ASAP to cover it. I do not like begging for funds.

So, this morning, another band rehearsal followed at 2 pm by a sitzprobe with the cast which I am really looking forward to. Then, tomorrow, I go to Philadelphia for a concert at the Academy of Vocal Arts with my friend Bruce Pomahac, which should be a lot of fun. I may have a meeting with the NYCGMC musical director about the "Appalachian Carols" situation on Sunday but I won't know until I hear from him.  After three attempts to send him an email about it last night were returned, I called and left a message on his cell phone. The ball is back in his court.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Vibes for DR Jeanne! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
TOD:
   DVD: several Netflix items, a 1971 SENSE AND SENSIBILITY from the BBC, ELEKTRA based on DR Dan(the Man)'s recommendation
   CD:  several McGlinn recordings, Guy Haines, Liz Callaway, Jacques Offenbach, Maria Callas
   VHS: stale porn
DR MBarnum, I see there's a stage production of BEN HUR happening in London! To me, it's one more example of bread and circuses, but it's got your name written all over it as their audience target!
The new Mr Hur seems a little scrawnier than Mr Heston, but perhaps they were looking for another Ramon Navarro?
Our dear friend Rick Unterberg wrote a really funny Ben-Hur song once. This is from memory, but I think the chorus went something like:
If you'da been Judah Ben-Hur
If you'da been Judah Ben-Hur
What would you have done if you'da been him
If you'da been Judah Ben-Hur
TOD:  movies-- "Nashville" (just watched) and "A Wedding" (still to watch)-- neither of which I've seen since they were orginally released.  I'm having a mini Robert Altman festival, I guess.
CD's-- a three disc Kay Thomspon set and a copy of a CD I made for a friend a few years ago.  I love the songs, but they are not mcuh to his taste, so Lord only knows what he thought of it (that is, if he played it all the way through).
Soundtracks to "Harlow" and to "Gigi"
Reading DR elmore3003's post this morning, a phrase from the Yom Kippur prayer book came to mind; the one about the "alphabet of woe."
Hope things improve for you today, my friend!!!
Good morning!
Not quite as cool this morning but cool enough to make sleep very pleasurable and to have the windows in the house open without freezing. I'm sitting in front of an open window in my office right now, and the fresh air is so wonderful.
Today I start on MEDIUM - Season Five as my work project. Since there were only 18 episodes last season, I may be able to finish this one in two days with really concentrated effort.
BK, you won't be blown away with the DIE HARD transfer on Blu-ray, I don't think. It's good but not exemplary. Neither is DIE HARD 2. But DIE HARD WITH A VENGEANCE (#3), which has always looked hideous on home video (I had the laser and the DVD), looks amazing. It's a HUGE step-up from any other issue of that movie.
On the TV front, there's a new STARGATE series that begins tonight on Syfy at 9 with a two hour movie pilot starring Robert Carlyle.
UGLY BETTY doesn't return until next Friday when it will have a two hour season premiere.
No PSYCH or MONK tonight. I'm not sure why.
Don't forget about MEDIUM on its new night and time: CBS tonight at 9 p.m. following GHOST WHISPERER.
