No UPS deliveries today, so it looks like so far, so good with the day off. Of course, FLASHPOINT will be coming USPS, and that doesn't arrive until at least noon or later.

I guess I need to head downstairs and get cleaned up for my lunch out with friends. After bathing and shaving, I'll likely watch last night's BROTHERS & SISTERS.

Awwww....

Gourmet, 68, To Die

:(

Sorry to hear this...

...Although, I was sort of surprised by the bluntness of that headline.  My first thought was, "Which gourmet (chef) are they talking about?"  :-\

There were two fire trucks and an ambulance at Casey's General Store this morning, so I drove on past.  Someone must have seen the price of bread there and keeled over.

I love the St James - the home of The Pajama Game (original) and Hello, Dolly! and for years, I thought, home of Phantom of the Opera.

Probably I cannot think of a TOD....except maybe....what is your favorite film directed by Cecil Blount DeMille?

Hmmm... "The Ten Commandments" is the only that comes to mind right now, so...  I guess that's my "answer".

Posted this to ATC, but I don't think anyone there knows the song it's parodying, The King of Wishful Thinking, so i thought I'd try it here, too, in part so that it's on the net for posterity, or as long as HHW is googlable.  :)

(Based on the reviews and chatter for Carrie Fisher's show WISHFUL DRINKING - I'm not seeing it until tomorrow)

THE KA-CHING OF WISHFUL DRINKING - a parody of THE KING OF WISHFUL THINKING

Here's the REAL song, if anyone wants to sing along: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ry4iwzS4Na0

Remember when a hundred and ten
Was only something in the shade
Now that’s the price without any ice
Because attendance must be paid

When I read New Yorker’s Talk of the Town
It’s C-Carrie Fisher by herself

I worked overtime at my low wage
Spent my savings without thinking
‘Cause it’s Princess Leia on the stage
That’s the ka-ching of “Wishful Drinking”

That's the ka-ching of "Wishful Drinking"

I don’t choose to read her reviews
They’ll prob’ly tell me way too much
They’ll give away the quips that she’ll say
‘Bout Harrison and Mark and such

Since she has left a hole in my wallet
I’ve somehow got to fool myself

That the hundred ten plus service charge
That I shelled out without blinking
Doesn’t make the tension loom so large
I hocked my bling for “Wishful Drinking”

(repeat above)

I’ll get over it I know I will

Should I have spent the dough on Jackman and Craig
Or maybe Catherine Zeta Jones

Will the audience be hip and glam
That’d help if the show is stinking
Lord let Rosie sit near where I am
Will I see Sting at “Wishful Drinking”
Or Larry King at “Wishful Drinking”

I’ll get over it, won't kvetch and cuss
She has a place in my heart
But lord I spent a hundred plus
I hope there’s zing to “Wishful Drinking”

(to fade-out)

I’ll get over it, I know I will
I’ll pretend there’s a cast of thirty
And I’ll miss Catherine Zeta Jones
To see this thing called “Wishful Drinking”

I am embarrassed to admit, I do not know the song - you young people have some different music for sure.

Nothing to be embarrassed by, I didn't know "Hard Out Here for a Pimp" until it got an Oscar nomination :)

Saturday, however, was a different story altogether.

Oh!  Yes!  A wholly different story.

Saturday was the day I went into San Francisco to see "South Pacific".

I've been living inside theaters for the past couple of days.
I've seen Memphis (a new Broadway show),  and Kiss of the Spider Woman (an NYU student production), as well as a few NYMF shows:  Max Understood, Fantasy Football, and My Scary Girl.

I love NYMF marathons.  I do not love killing time between the shows.

If you are in NY, and don't have other plans for tonight yet, I highly recommend you go see the Steinhardt production of Kiss of the Spider Woman at the Frederick Loewe Theater at NYU.  Tonight is the final performance.  I go to their shows every year - they are always wonderful.  KOTSW is a difficult show to stage; it's such a conceptual musical, and it's not easy to stage a show that takes place within a prison cell, but breaks into recollections of musical numbers from various fictitious movies.  They did an inspired job putting it all together.  Tonight is industry night, so anyone with a union card, AEA, 802, etc, can get in for free.  Otherwise, it's $20.  But do call them for a reservation.  They've been selling out.
