I enjoyed the film Contact, but it was at least 30 minutes too long. You know from the start of the film that Foster will be the character who will be the person who will have the first contact. The filmmakers waste at least 30 minutes with the sequence of her being passed over and someone else going. One knows something will happen that will cause Foster to go. In my opinion a total waste of 30 minutes. No suspense. No surprises. Just a waste of 30 minutes of running time.

Thursday morning greetings!  I'm up early to spend the day with my Mom.  She wants some help sorting and pitching stuff, in anticipation of her not-yet-on-the-horizon move to an apartment.

I love the movie Contact.  And there are several elaborate "trick" camera shots that get me each and every time!

Good morning, all! I have a meeting at Toyland this morning but I would rather go back to bed for another hour or two.

There's little beyond the meeting on today's docket, and that is a really pleasant change. I finally heard from George about an invoice, so I need to find him today and pay him for the work on the bookshelves. My next apartment project is to pack up these 12 cartons and get them into Fed Ex soon, like maybe tomorrow or the beginning of next week. Now that FR has opened, I also need to get back to the final proof of THE MOST HAPPY FELLA and the proofng on the Jerome Moross scores.

This is how you use primary colors on stage:

I also enjoyed CONTACT (along with the book) but, yes--too long!  But I think you do need the misdirection of Jodie Foster's character being initially passed over for the mission.  Otherwise, it would have been too straightforward dramatically.  But how to do it all in just one hundred and twenty minutes...I donno...

Good morning!

It got up to 85 here yesterday. I was inside all day, so I didn't really notice it had gotten that warm. Just the opposite today. It was 49 during my walk this morning and will only peep into the 70s in the late afternoon.

I liked CONTACT a lot when I saw it at the theater and later got the DVD. I haven't watched it in years, however. That's one I need to revisit before I decide if I want to spring for the Blu-ray version.

I still have four episodes of FLASHPOINT to go, but I'll start on them later this morning. I'd like to be finished with it by mid afternoon if possible.

If those Fox Blu-rays come in, I would have some time to start on MIRACLE ON 34TH STREET (1947) this afternoon or early this evening. Of course, it's a very heavy night of TV watching (some of which MUST be watched "live" to fit in everything I want to see), so I'm not quite sure how this day is going to pan out.

Simply thrilled to read DR Elmore's report on FINIAN'S RAINBOW (and DR Jose's, too), and I hope the show has a long, long run. The score is one of the masterpieces of the American musical theater. I'd love to see the show get the same acceptance that has greeted HAIR.

THE OFFICE is an hour-long episode tonight since it's Jim and Pam's wedding. COMMUNITY thus moves to its now permanent home of 8 p.m. on NBC Otherwise, there don't appear to be any anomolies on the viewing schedule. (30 ROCK returns next Thursday.)

I'm going to hop off-line for a bit and do some writing. Then I'll head down to clean up for lunch out with friends, and then settle in and watch more FLASHPOINT until it's time to leave.
