...And then there was a production where the casting breakdown for the audition notice was put together by someone in the office who didn't really "know" the show.  Consequently, when the vocal breakdown and ranges were listed, they were almost too literal since the all the women in the show had to sing within a certain range of notes, however, not all of those parts "lived" within the same range of notes.  And since the show was cast without a musical director in the room, well...

-And, yes, that does happen from time to time too.  More often than anyone would ever admit to.

Watching Mad Men - SPOILER

A bit of a shocker involving one of the characters I like best - I hope this isn't the end of the character.

I think I'll finish the show, take a shower, and then just relax and cruise the Internet and maybe write a little bit more of the liner notes, which I will have to finish by Tuesday so I can start the next one.

So, exactly how do people who cannot sing get cast in Broadway shows?

And please, when you answer that, remember that this is a family site.

There was a big stink concerning rumors about a certain director's casting couch when he took over SCARLET PIMPERNEL several years ago and he's currently directing the show in question.

And I'm (still) sort of surprised that the "mess" that the director-in-question had with Actor's Equity a couple of years ago seems to have abated.  Or something like that.

If Mr Irwin is flummoxed by the rhythms of "Kids" - and since I've done the show - and will be doing it again in August, I can understand that - somebody for God's sake give him a CD of the OBC!

DR JOSE you always look quite handsome and debonair....of course I have only seen you once during a personal appearance, but that seems to be the general consensus.

It's my experince with Bill tyhat it isn't the lyrics causing the problem; it's singing in rhythm that's the problem. I did TONIGHT AT 8:30 with him.

He cleans up good. As opposed to me, who always looks like I've been working on my coal barge.

DR JRand - Thank You.

*I've been trying to remember the last time I saw Dr. V., and I think it might have been just before I made the move to NYC. So, about four and a half years ago, I guess. What's even more sobering(?) is that I started studying with her 23 years ago... And I was anywhere from 25-30 pounds heavier then too.

DR JRand - And you cleaned up quite nicely (too) when we had that mini-HHW gathering in Clowes Hall with DR Ginny, her DH Richard, FDR Joey and yourself.

Oh... And the "handsome" comment came as a bit of a shock to me since I'm
about two weeks overdue for a haircut. -But if my longer hair was good enough for Paul and Joanne... ;)

I never got the specifics, but it basically had to do with rehearsing an Equity company on non-Equity time. Or vice versa. If you track his directing credits, you'll notice a "gap" in his timeline, as well as a bump in more non-Broadway and overseas work.

That made me laugh so very hard, JRand59. Almost as much as your sudden "Kong is climbing the Empire State Building. That is all" post of some years back...which still makes me laugh out loud, for some reason.
