First of all, for anyone who is wondering, the show's art department made actual cards with actual graphics and rules on them, and we all spent a fair amount of time making up some logical rules to go with the Mystic Warlords of Ka'a. As far as I know, there aren't official rules or an official card set, but I'm sure someone will create one within a couple of weeks if the show doesn't. (Oh please, oh please.)

When he first talked to me about working on the show, Bill Prady told me that I'd be playing a "delightfully evil version" of myself. This sounded like a lot of fun to me, but it was more difficult to find that character than you'd think. When I'm playing Fawkes on The Guild it's easy to slip into his kilt and be a jerk, but wearing my own clothes and essentially playing a stylized version of myself made it a real challenge to hit "delightfully evil" without veering into "not committed to being delightfully evil" or "just plain evil." Keeping that twinkle in my eye, and knowing that Wil Wheaton (The Big Bang Version) is planning to scam Sheldon from the moment he sits down, was essential to this particular characterization working out, and I didn't completely find it until we'd run the episode a couple of times.

During one of the run throughs, when Jim did his Klingon bit, I turned to Kevin and asked him, "Did he just say 'revenge is a dish best served cold' in Klingon?" like I was trying to figure out if that's actually what happened, like maybe I misunderstood him. Chuck Lorre told me that it would be funnier if I was more exasperated. "You're just here to play this game, and now some guy is quoting Klingon at you. This happens everywhere you go," he said.

I sighed dramatically, and said, "Oh, it does." Everyone laughed, hard, and Chuck pointed his finger at me. "Yes. That is exactly the way to play that beat."

When Chuck gave me that note, I grokked how to play Evil Wil Wheaton (The Big Bang Theory version), and I could see the comedy in every beat I played for the rest of the show. I totally grew a level in comedy acting, and learned something about letting go of who I really am, so I could embrace the Delightfully Evil version of myself (who I seriously hope will return in the future, because OMG was it fun to play him.)

The producers would be foolish not to bring him back. It was BY FAR the best part of the show, and they can take the rivalry in so many directions.

I believe the ratings on Monday night were the highest ever for the show or certainly among the highest ever.

I spent most of the late morning and afternoon watching episodes of THE GUARDIAN. It's quite a well done show, very interesting cases, though the pace is a bit frantic since the Simon Baker character is balancing work in children's legal services with work at a big time law firm owned by his father.

One of the first six cases had to do with a gay teen, and, of course, it was my favorite episode of those I've watched thus far.

There was another one which stole an idea from a LAW & ORDER episode with a woman who's blessed with such young looks she can pass as a teenager and is doing so, trying to keep her daughter with her by claiming it's her younger sister.

While I ate lunch, I watched NCIS: LA. Not the most compelling of cases. Both Rocky Carroll and Pauley Perrette made guest appearances.

I had enough time at the end of the afternoon to skim through today's ONE LIFE TO LIVE. Lyle, FIsh, and Nick were all on, and I enjoyed the story. Roxie also played a hand in the day's events.

A few markets around here are advertising "Carving Pumpkins" for sale this week. Is there a difference between carving pumpkins and regular pumpkins and cooking pumpkins? They all have pumpkin guts, right? Do the non-carving pumpkins have a sweeter meat?

Last night I watched a William Castle film on TCM I had never seen before--MR SARDONICUS. I remember seeing a full page pic of the villain's face in FAMOUS MONSTERS OF FILMLAND and being totally freaked out. I'm giving a final proofing to Brent's master, then have to make a very difficult decision about a track on Final Option. On the final track, there is a horribly bad edit - it was on the FSM CD and, I presume, the Varese LP. I don't own the film and so can't check if that was done for the film, but listening to the edit is painful - brief, though. My mastering guy smoothed out the edit and it's so much nicer now, but I fear if I use it some fool will say "HE RUINED THAT TRACK - where's the bad edit?"

Had a foot long Subway Eyetalian for lunch, and some almonds. No packages today - unbelievable. Have to have a conversation with the author of the long musical - really don't want to, but I guess I'll do it now and be done with it. I haven't really done anything but glance at the revision, some of which seems fine, and some of which remains the same, despite notes and despite things that were agreed on to be cut. I don't really care anymore - we'll do the table reading and the things that don't work that they haven't changed will continue not to work. I'll do the staged reading in February and if they're still hanging on to things that should be cut or changed then I'll walk away. The good news is that the show is now about twenty pages shorter.
