Speaking of flu, we had a funny thing happen at Junior's today.  Richard was wearing a clerical collar and, when asked his name by the host, said "Father Palmer."  We sat down to wait for our table and a couple came in with the husband wearing a surgical mask and gloves.  They had a long conversation with the host about their "requirements" and were seated immediately.  We laughed over the fact that, apparently, a mask & gloves can trump a clerical collar.

maybe he was thinking Father Palmer was  Catholic priest out on a date and was punishing him for his "sins"!

DR Vixmom - we do get some funny looks when he's wearing a clerical collar and we're holding hands.

'night!

Thought I'd share my multi-part parody of the upcoming production of A Little Night Music.  I'd love comments on any specifics if anyone cares to offer them.

You saw Web Site Story and Worst Slide Story celebrating last year’s revival of West Side Story
Now we preview the internet parody for this year’s smash Stephen Sondheim revival – here’s a look at A Little Site Music, based on “Smileys of a Summer Site” ....

Hysterical!! ;D

Through the generosity of one of my favorite stage managers, I was able to attend a performance of Love, Loss and What I Wore earlier tonight. The most basic way to describe the show - which is presented as a "seated reading" - is a series of vignettes about women and their relationship to clothes.  But it's much more than that.  Lots of laughs, and even a few tears. :)

Tonight's cast - which rotates every few weeks - consisted of Mary Birdsong, Tyne Daly, Lisa Joyce, Jane Lynch and Mary Louise Wilson.  Quite a nice line-up of actresses.

There were also some "stars" sitting in the audience at tonight's show: Dan Lauria, Wendy Malick, Michael Musto, and "Mrs. C." herself, Marion Ross.

Back from the film music fans get together - these were all people who'd had tickets to the Ennio Morricone concert at the Bowl that was cancelled at the last minute - it was my idea to have the get-together, especially for a lot of the people who'd flown in specially to see the concert.  Genghis Cohen was the perfect place, we had about eighteen people, and the food was grand, as always, as were the conversations.  Nick Redman was there, and it was ever so much fun.

Then I have to read the second act of the long musical which has been shorn of about twenty-five pages, which seems impressive until you realize that about four songs don't have their lyrics in the script - once those are added in then the page loss is less impressive.

I'm quite full of Orange Chicken right now.  And I'll be back at Genghis Cohen on Wednesday to sup with Mr. Bert I. Gordon.

As I was walking along 43rd Street back to the subway, I noticed a group of women standing on the sidewalk.  One of their friends had taken a bad fall while walking, and they were in the process of calling 911 for an ambulance.  I talked to them for a few minutes, and found out that they were from out of town, and their friend who had fallen down has bone cancer.  Thankfully, everyone was calm, and the woman who was still on the ground was putting up a good front even though she said she was dealing with some excruciating pain and could not move her left leg.  I checked in with the doorman in the building across the street and asked him where the closest hospital was - just in case the ambulance driver asked where she wanted to be taken.

A few minutes later, we started hearing the ambulance siren, and once it circled the block, I flagged it down.  The three EMTs were great. They kept assuring the woman that she was going to be fine, and even told a few jokes as we all helped to get her onto the stretcher and into the ambulance.

...And they had all just come from seeing Love, Loss and What I Wore too.

Maybe the husband threatened to breathe on him if they weren't seated immediately.  ::)

DR JENNIFER is correct - I think TAR will start ON TIME tonight on the Eastern Coast and inland.

Even though none of us are watching the show, we added "Three Rivers" to our DVR schedule in order to anticipate(?) any football game-related delays.  -Which came in handy tonight for the one-minute delay. ;)

What a lazy day! I am feeling hungover although I've had no alcohol in over two weeks and I'm ready for a nap. I'm also listening to Maria Callas sing, and her rendition of "Vissi d'Arte" is so moving and sad that it moves me to tears. What an artiste!

And speaking of Maria Callas, it was just recently officially announced that Tyne Daly will be portraying "La Divina" in Master Class this coming spring at the Kennedy Center as part of it's Terrance McNally "Nights at the Opera" series.

And Faye Dunnaway will star in and direct the movie version.
