XM is getting to be a bit of an expensive luxury--on Chill the other day I heard a really cool remix of a tune and ended up springing for the complete Hotel de Costes collection.  Then yesterday on Spa I heard a cool group called Mediaeval Baebes, and I just ordered all of their CDs.

That could be it, DR JOSE.

Wow DR ELMORE - it's like you're spending the day with Mr William Castle's TINGLER

I loved that film! Let's toast Judith Evelyn.

The term "Dopp kit" derives from early 20th century leather craftsman Charles Doppelt, a German immigrant to the United States, who invented his toiletry case in 1919.

I just had to share.      :)

My dad always calls his "toiletry case" a Dopp Kit. I always wondered why, now I know....

I asked him once why he called it that and he said "Because that's what it is"  Hard to argue with that one

That was my mother's answer to all my questions from "why is it called butter?" to "what's sex?"

Thank you all for the vibes and xylophones! I've wrapped my gifts, signed my cards, and waiting for another hour before I start getting ready.

Now, perhaps, DR DAW can weigh in on why the Navy calls a "ditty bag" a "ditty bag".

Thank you, DR Ron Pulliam!

The folk on HHW are the best in the world and I'm honored to know all of you. I just got a beautiful arrangement of flowers from Seattle, and i'm so glad I was here to accept them, DR TCB! I'll have that address for Cheyenne in the mail ASAP!

I've had a lovely phone conversation with Mr Ron Raines who's rehearsing A LITTLE NIGHT MUSIC with Leslie Uggams in Detroit for Michigan Opera Theatre and I just spoke to my surrogate son Joshie, who's playing in the orchestra of his first Broadway show. I had to warn him about opening his opening night gift in public because it's a bit risque. The MD and director are getting tasteful gifts but Josh's is a consolation gift for the production's turning down his request to have his synth, which won't fit in the orchestra pit, placed in the chorus boys' dressing room.

I am having computer issues.  My computer was slow and when i rebooted, well now it will not start (load Windows).  I tried everything in my extremely limited know-how.

Maybe I will see if my brother-in-law can look at it this weekend. it's probably something very simple. And not knowing what to do is making me feel very inept!

I agree. Just listening to The Jonathan Schwartz program on XM Radio has cost me a small fortune

I just got a good luck phone call from goddaughter Charlotte, who's in rehearsal for the U of M production of MACBETH, which is set in a World War I hospital. The witches are nuns, and Charlotte's playing the First Witch. Were hoping that FR runs through New Year's, if not longer, so she can see it when she comes home in December. She's staying in Ann Arbor for Thanksgiving because of the MACBETH rehearsals.

I'm hoping that FR is a huge hit and runs for a long time, folks, so keep them vibes coming! Thanks.

FOR THE NEW PRODUCTION OF FINIAN'S RAINBOW!!!!!

I am glad that the reviews are already written...what a strain on the actors the "old" system used to be, where everything rode on the ONE opening night performance!

Thanks for the report on the Lincoln Center exhibit, DR Julie.  I know that DR elmore3003 had also mentioned this previously.  I shall have to try to catch it before it closes.

I haven't used IE for quite sometime, and now I remember why.  I re-installed FIREFOX and now it seems to be working.

Strange internet doings today.

I'm at work right now and NONE of the printers in the entire building seem to be working! :o The computer people are working on the situation, but fortunately, I don't have to actually print anything right now.  But later today...who knows? :-\

Back from a nice lunch with Lauren Rubin.  Shockingly, CPK was almost empty even when we left at one.  I guess the trendy Studio City Bob's Big Boy moms have moved their kids to another restaurant - Hugo's for sure, but I'm sure they're all at some other Ventura Blvd eatery now.  And the waiter told me some shocking news - the dish I've always had there, the grilled sausage and peppers penne is history as of November 5 as is their marinara sauce.

Well, the mail did bring a bunch of review items. Both UP and MOSTERS, INC. on Blu-ray arrived, and so did that big NATIONAL PARKS set. The latter came out on October 6th, but tonight I'm going to start on UP. Yep, it doesn't come out until November 10th, but I think there would be more interest in it than in a disc set that's almost a month late.

Of course, Fox's ICE AGE 3, which came out this past Tuesday is still MIA.

Before I left for lunch, I had time to watch all of I CONFESS. Love the premise, but the movie just stubbornly refuses to be dramatic. It's talky and earnest but the really good skeleton for the story just isn't exploited for the maximum drama.

And don't forget UFO HUNTERS tonight at 11 p.m. EST on the History Channel.  This is the episode my sister filmed back in April....if she survived the editing process.  Her name is Myrna.

I've made a note to watch (or at least record) this. :D JRand, do you know the name of the episode?  There's a marathon on tonight and the hi-def channel starts at a different time than the regular-def channel...at least, here in the PNW:

Thursday Oct 29, 2009  671 HSTRYHD
5:00 PM UFO Hunters
6:00 PM UFO Hunters
7:00 PM UFO Hunters
8:00 PM UFO Hunters
9:01 PM UFO Hunters
10:01 PM UFO Hunters

versus:

Thursday Oct 29, 2009  37 HISTP
8:00 PM UFO Hunters
9:00 PM UFO Hunters
10:00 PM UFO Hunters
11:00 PM UFO Hunters
12:01 AM UFO Hunters
1:01 AM UFO Hunters

When I got back in, I watched THE WRONG MAN. This movie has always depressed me, and it's scary that a completely innocent man could be railroaded into jail and almost a conviction due to a couple of coincidental pieces of flimsy evidence and some misidentification by frightened clerks and secretaries.

This is certainly the most inconsistent of all the video transfers. Goes from beautiful to awful almost from shot to shot.

So far, it's been a fantastic day. Don Pippin, who conducted LA CAGE AUX FOLLES and MAME, among many shows, called to wish me good luck, Liz Callaway just sent me a wonderful email, and I'm getting really jittery. As Bert Lahr would say, Gong-gong-gong-gonnnngggg!
