Good Morning! Good Afternoon!

I'm up, I'm up... And, well... I woke up feeling a bit anxious and, well, depressed, so I went back to bed for a few more hours.  I'm feeling better now, but I really do think that Daylight Savings Time - coupled with the run of gray and cloudy days - has triggered a bit of SAD in my system and psyche.  But, again, I'm up.

The US Postal service has mangled my latest volume of the cantatas of J.S. Bach.

That is all.

As for the Topic of the Day...

Hmmm...

My parents were somewhat protective of me and my brothers when we were growing up, however, they did like to go to the movies - and take us along when possible. They also really liked going to drive-ins. Sometimes the double-features were family-friendly, and sometimes they were not.  For example, I seem to remember a double-feature of "Jaws" and "Orca".  And I guess even seeing "Close Encounters of the Third Kind" was kind of shocking to me at age nine.

As for last night's "Glee"....

-I certainly hope that none of those students have to go for a drug test anytime soon. ;)

-I liked that version of "Defying Gravity", and, yes, it may have seemed a bit repetitious, but since they cut the little interludes, well...  -I think there are full versions available on iTunes sung by each actor/actress, as well as a full duet version with harmony.  Again, I think.

-It was also very nice to hear that the "auto-tune" was turned down a bit for last night's vocals.  There was still some "processing", but it didn't annoy me last night as much as it has in past episodes.

The plea bargain in the balloon case is a joke, if true.  Not that I wish anyone jail time, because I don't, but they just serve probation - it's the reason: to keep the loving family together.  Sorry, these people have instilled in their children the most warped sense of what family is and if that's loving and/or healthy then I don't know anything about family.  So, let's see - they'll get probation.  Fine.  How long until they sell the story to some idiot, disgusting TV producer?  And make a ton of money.  Which is why they did it.  Which is why the plea bargain should include the inability to exploit this crap in ANY manner at ANY time.  That would be a proper sentence.

A. The judge does not need to accept the plea bargain - there is still some discussion of adding 30-90 days jail time.

B. The agreement reportedly bars the Heene's from doing any TV shows.

Note: the best evidence they have aganisnt the Dad is the Mom's admissions, which can not be used against him in court.

In a court case the Mom could easily get prison time and deportation while the Dad could get a slap on the wrist.

Interesting. Out here it is very gray and completely clouded over. And we are all talking about how wonderful it is.

I was channel-surfing an hour or so ago and was DEE-LIGHTED to discover that ComCast has seriously enhanced my HD selections, including TCMHD, IFCHD, LIFETIMEHD and MGMHD.  I also acquired four or five more HBO HD channels.  Sigh.

So many channels, so few movies I actually want to see...but...HEY!  It's MORE!

TOD:

I don't know if THX 1138 was  considered controversial, or not, but when it showed on TV around 1973, during the daytime, and a naked boob appeared, well, I was shocked.

Hee Hee...I can well imagine!

A tale to toast Kimmel's Kockles:

Pumped-up prices: $4 per gallon gasoline may be coming in 2010

Quote
...
Gasoline demand down, but the price is up. What's going on here? Well, part of the reason is the price of oil, currently around $80 per barrel. Oil -- boosted by the weak dollar and by likely increasing global oil demand during the economic recovery -- has essentially doubled since hitting a post-leverage boom low of about $35 per barrel a year ago.

The other part concerns the business of refining and the nation's refinery system. With oil prices high and gasoline demand low, the "crack spread" -- basically the difference between what refiners pay for oil and the total revenue received for products created from a barrel of crude -- has been low. That's prompted many refineries to reduce capacity: if a refiner can't earn a decent profit refining crude into gasoline (and other products), the company stops refining it.

Note: the less efficient refiners are the first to cut production; to meet rising gas demands the price must rise enough to make the less efficient producers profitable – which will in turn make the more efficient producers VERY profitable.

...

It is a cold, raw, rainy day outside. Having to go from house to car to restaurant to car to home (just that little bit out in the elements) was torture. I hate days like this, but I guess they have to be endured to have the gorgeous ones that I appreciate now all the more.

When I looked out the window this morning there was snow on the mountains.  I can no longer see the top of the mountains to tell you if the snow is still there.  It has been raining on and off all morning, not enough to ruin our hike.

When I got in from lunch, I immediately started on GOMORRAH since it's 137 minutes long. I was able to get it watched.

Very violent but riveting from beginning to end. The violence is cleverly manipulated. We get some very soon after the movie begins. Then, it's almost an hour before something really awful happens, and one gets lulled into relaxation and then it begins again.

There are five stories being told in splintered plotting, so the jumps between stories keeps the viewer on his toes completely. Took me a while to keep a couple of stories separated because the main characters looked so much alike.

I also had time to watch the trailer which was the only other thing on disc one in the set.

BTW, the transfer is one of the best DVD transfers I've seen in a long, long time. I suspect the Blu-ray will be magnificent when I finally get to it.

There is a second disc of just bonus features, a couple of hours worth from the looks of it. Looks like I'll be busy right up to the start of BONES.
