Good morning, all! I have to make an emergency run down down to 64th Street for some music shortly, and I have plenty of things to work on when I return. At 2 this afternoon, I have physical therapy, and that's my day.

Yes, I use them, and I'm not proud of it. I had to be very careful when I taught school that one wouldn't slip out especially when students were being ridiculous on the playground or goofing off in class when they were supposed to be working.

I guess my most commonly used one is the vernacular form of "Godfrey Daniels."

And I wholly agree about the value of a comfy accommodation. Nothing is worse on a trip than a bed that makes you miserable, so I'm happy to read you're comfortable and able to rest in your stateroom.

I can tell you the first one I ever remember hearing, and it made me blush to hear it: on the original cast LP of MY FAIR LADY.

Rex Harrison says all those damns at the start of "I've Grown Accustomed to Her Face." My father came running into my bedroom when I was first playing it and said, "What kind of records are you buying!"

I also blushed the first time I heard Ethel Merman sing on the GYPSY cast LP, "Some people sit on their butts."

(I know, sounds very innocent, but I was a very innocent kid back then.)

Did I read somewhere that someone important is going to die on THE MENTALIST tonight? I have no idea who (did I dream this?) Maybe it was about last week's show when one of the female members of the team got shot while she was wearing her vest. I certainly don't want ANY of the core members of the team changing. It's one of my favorite shows and favorite casts.

Just a note of warning for those who may buy or rent the FIGHT CLUB Blu-ray. David FIncher planted a "gotcha" on the disc after it loads. You first get the menu for NEVER BEEN KISSED with Drew Barrymore's picture and romantic music on the track making the user think he got the wrong disc. Then, it flickers away and the REAL menu for FIGHT CLUB takes over.

Fuck is the curse word I tend to throw around the most, though most of the time it comes out as frick or freak. It may not sound like I'm cursing, but my intent is usually clear.

I'm not big on the use of shit. When I do use it, it's usually coupled with bull and even then I tend to say bullcrap.

I never use the "C" word and don't even like to type it out. To me, that's in a category with hate-filled words that are not part of my normal vocabulary.

Some HHW's object to my use of bitch, particularly when directed at female political figures. But to me, bitch is no worse or has no more power than words such as asshole, bastard, jerk-off or jackass that I would use to describe certain males in order to point out pettiness, ignorance and ungraciousness.

I am pretty free with using damn and hell (are they still considered curse words?) but my Catholic upbringing still has me picturing a little black spot on my soul if I ever let a God damn slip out (and that one doesn't count since I'm just talking about it and not using it with purpose.) Likewise, I rarely would let slip Jesus, but I do let out a jeeze.

I do not use swear words. At least not often.

I did tell my DH a story about the fourth grade and the topographical state map we had to make, and I used a bad word. Coming from someone who doesn't use such a word, he thought it was hilarious.

Dan the Man, actually if I had to pick a favourite cuss word, it would be the dreaded "C"- word simply because it still has the power to truly offend and shock, which to me is the purpose and point of a good curse word. No one even blinks an eye when "fuck" is bandied about anymore. It's pretty much lost its power to offend.

That said, I rarely use the "C" word except when I'm truly pissed off and want to direct an offensive barb at some deserving malefactor.

Oddly enough, in England, the word is bandied with abandon and doesn't seem to have the shock power it still retains here.

Has anyone seen the Rosalind Russell documentary that's been running on PBS stations, LIFE IS A BANQUET? I found it on my Tivo last night and watched and enjoyed it a lot. Kathleen Turner is absolutely spooky in her channeling of Russell's voice--I actually thought it was a newly-discovered audiobook recording by Rosie herself. I'm considering buying a copy of the doc on Amazon, but I'm suspecting that it may someday be packaged with another rerelease of AUNTIE MAME or GYPSY (though that will probably be a long time in coming...)

DR CP, you've provoked a few memories for me in using the "C" word in anger during heated arguments. And yes, it was powerful for me, probably because of my own feelings about the word.

But there are also good memories, particularly with women who were referring to their own anatomy and didn't mind my own reference. But this is TMI and not the topic at hand...
