Today was really great. I didn't go to the seminar in Des Moines and didn't have anything scheduled.

So, I was able to sort out the phone cable situation. Yikes! Not nearly as expensive as the car repairs, but much more expensive than I thought. But it's going to be good. Totally new phone and computer wiring thoughout the office so you can plug in a phone or into the computer network from any room. I could do wireless but it's not nearly as secure.

Edith and I went for lunch and just caught up on a few things around the office. It was pretty cool to just be relaxed for a day with very little stress

Apparently as soon as you open the minibar it detects a change in the weight of the contents, but not the fact that I was "adding to". They took them all off, no problem. They were a very nice hotel and accomodated the Mercer group beautifully. Every night we'd come back to find a special shortbread cookie decorated with something related to the events of the day and other little treats. I could look out my window and see Johnny's statue.

Hotels seem to be notorious for charging for the minibar, used or not. There should not be any trouble getting it removed from your bill. Their problem will figuring out which room should have been charged. I suggest hanging onto the corrected bill for a week, just to make sure you aren't charged again.

I've stayed at hotels that charge by weight. I don't even touch the mini bar for fear of getting charged

On a semi-related note... This "memory" just came back to me...

When I was on tour once, there was a married couple in the band - they both played woodwinds. They were true "road warriors", and had quite a few "systems" in place to keep them sane and satisfied on the road. One of things they used to do was to take a bed sheet or two from one hotel to use on the bus - or on the theatre floor between show - for naps. However, they never really "took" anything. They would just "replace" the sheet at each successive hotel on our itinerary. It was sort of a traveling linen-washing service. Of course, there were times when they did not get a room with the corresponding-sized bed for their current sheet, so...

Oh! The last few times I've stayed at a Hotel Monaco, the goldfish was automatically included. Maybe they changed that policy.

We stayed a number of times at the Monoco in Portland, until Bryan moved, & never received a fish. We always had Sherlock with us which might be why there wasn't a fish in the room. I think the Kimpton site mentions on request, maybe you were just lucky.

Years ago, when I was a court reporting student, the instructor once opened up some notebook and began reading a piece that was filled with swear words. We were shocked. He told us we'd better get over it and learn how to write those words on the stenograph machine. We would hear them in court. Then he made us read it back.

Ben & Jerry's unveiled their new flavor today: Hannah Teter's Maple Blondie - "Maple Ice Cream with Blonde Brownie Chunks & a Maple Caramel Swirl".

"Gingersnap" was also recently released.

The English expression goddam has been used since the eighteenth century, if not earlier. In Beaumarchais' play Le Mariage de Figaro of 1784, Figaro has a long monologue on the English language and the use of the word "goddam."

That's very funny! I just find her "see how hard I'm acting" technique awful and her voice nothing special, neither beautiful nor of much character; I do not understand the raving about her.
