Which came first, The Partridges or The First Nudie Musical?

I remember Bruce as Laurie's date on the former, but, I distinctly became aware of Bruce with THE FIRST NUDIE MUSICAL on its first run.

The first time I spoke to Bruce Kimmel, I was planning a charity revue of songs from flop musicals and his UNSUNG MUSICALS had just been released.  I phoned the offices at Varese Sarabande, and a certain Esther Monk connected me to Bruce.  My query then was whether or not I could use the title "Unsung Musicals" for my revue, to which BK responded in the affirmative.  At the time, I knew that BK had recently seen PASSION in previews in NYC and we talked about that show also, BK's opinion was NOT positive.

I had to wait several years to meet BK in person, though.  I finally caught up with him at Joe Allen's the weekend of Alice Ripley and Emily Skinner's concert at Town Hall.  Bruce made that entire weekend a delight - from the dinner and dish at Joe Allen's to the backstage of Town Hall to the post-concert party at Cafe Un, Deux, Trois, Bruce was a delightful host and even then felt like an old friend.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY BRUCE!

And thank you for all the wonderful musical and non-musical memories!

May they continue for sixty-something more years!

Need to get ready to go to the Studio City meeting, and my feeling has always been that when there's money in a neighborhood, crime follows.   Studio City has always been upper middle class ( I've been here since 1965, although I'm at the poor end) but it was always more subdued.  Now it's all hip and swanky.  That brings crime.   The same thing happened along Hollywood Blvd., during the 5 years we lived there.

Time to move to a poorer neighborhood.

Time to move to a poorer neighborhood.

Be patient - the way CA's economy is going the neighborhood will be poor before you know it.

DR Elmore--regarding the lack of seating space, I don't understand why you didn't make the obvious choice and sit on Cheyenne's lap.

DR Dan(the Man), that's a comment I would expect from our DR TCB! It may be the fantasy of several on HHW but it isn't mine.

I have no idea what you mean!

My mother has fallen in love with the studio apartment they have available for her at her retirement complex.  It has a veranda and a decorative (non-working) fireplace.  She will probably move shortly after the first of the year.

Sam is right about the City of Studio.  It's always been a fairly quiet, small neighborhood with quaint rather than large houses.  Then these entitled TV and movie people took it over as theirs, buying quaint charming homes and ripping them down and putting up awful, faceless, and disgusting houses that ruined the face of this once charming nabe.  It should not have been allowed, frankly, but there's no way to stop it, unfortunately.  And yes, when you bring that kind of thing into a nabe then crime follows.  I think that's why we've been having the nightly dance of the police helicopters.  Of course, I hope they catch the people perpetrating the crimes and I hope they off them on the spot for making people's lives miserable, especially during the holiday season.  It's truly disgusting.  But the oafs have themselves to blame.  Why couldn't they stay in Sherman Oaks or Encino, where the houses ARE big and stately and, you know, even original to the neighborhood.

I had an enjoyable revisit with BLAZING SADDLES. The Blu-ray looks OK, but not as good as THE TWELVE CHAIRS looked. It only has a Dolby Digital 5.1 track (no mono; no lossless).

Madeline Kahn is simply stupendous in the film, and Gene Wilder and Clevon Little make a great team.

I watched all of the bonus features on the BLAZING SADDLES disc. Mel talked for about 50 minutes for his commentary. A making-of feaurette had those in the cast who are still with us along with select members of the crew. There's a couple of minutes of tribute to Madeline Kahn's work in the movie excerpted from a Lifetime special on her.

The "Black Bart" TV pilot with Lou Gossett was simply awful. No wonder it didn't sell.

Then I watched tonight's episode of BETTER OFF TED. Had some funny stuff with the nerds and Ted pretending to be an Indian. Doesn't have nearly the laughs that MODERN FAMILY has, but I'm glad it's back on the schedule.
