That's wonderful Jose!!  I didn't know it before - but it captures the feeling of the moment so perfectly.  I will never stop staring with elation as the chandeliers start to rise towards the ceiling.  It's one of my favorite NY moments.  I'm awed every time.

DR Julie - Do you have iTunes?

Yes, I do.

Jose - about the Varis rush tickets -- do you happen to know if this is only applicable to performances that are not sold out in advance, or if they actually hold back from sale 200 seats to ensure they will have rush tickets for every performance, whether "sold out" or not?

There are some limitations:

-They're only available for performance from Monday-Thursday.
-They do try to set aside at least 200 tickets for each performance if 200 tickets are available for that evening.
-It really is quite a popular program. People start lining up as soon as the garage opens at 7:00am! However, sometimes the line isn't that long if it's a production that's been in the repertory for a while.
-For some productions - like Doctor Atomic last season - they will "extend" the program to weekend evenings and the Saturday matinee.  All depends on ticket demand.  Additionally, they will sometimes just offer a special $35 ticket pricing on the day of the show.  First come, first served. -That's how I saw Doctor Atomic from the 15th row last year. :)

And...

Starting on January 7, Lincoln Center will have their own day-of discount ticket booth set up in their newly refurbished David Rubenstein Atrium.  They will be selling day-of discount tickets for all the Lincoln Center venues:

Alice Tully Hall -
Avery Fisher Hall - Home of the New York Philharmonic
David H. Koch Theater - Home of City Opera and ABT
Jazz at Lincoln Center
Lincoln Center Theater*
The Metropolitan Opera

*I've actually been "communicating" with the Atrium staff via Twitter lately, and when I asked how their own day-of discount ticket program would affect what they send down to TKTS, their latest response was: "We're not sure". It could get interesting.

Yay!! and Wow!!

So the Vivian Beaumont and Mitzi Newhouse are not participating in this - or is that what they meant by "we're not sure"?  I assume the Jazz at Lincoln Center means that Rose Hall and the Allen Room will also be listed.

How fabulous to have another discount ticket booth just for LC events!

It will include the Beaumont and the Newhouse.  They're just trying to figure out how many to send to TDF and how to many to keep for themselves.  *I'm suspecting that any unclaimed house seats may end up at The Atrium. :)

Miss Dixie Bell and I had a run in the cemetery.  When we were driving back, PennDot was a-salting our road.  Yippee!  Still, they should have been plowing and breaking up the ice and removing the ice. . .tomorrow morning there will still be ice, it will just be salted ice. . .

I'm up after a wonderful night's sleep - so easy to do when it's pouring rain, which it was and which it is.

Here's a recipe for chicken wings I worked up earlier this year for a food Web site I run called SavorSA. The photos are on the site, but they apparently don't want to appear here. So check out the full pix at http://www.savorsa.com/2009/09/truffle-wings-a-touch-of-gourmet/

Truffle Wings

Oil for fryer
1/3 cup truffle flour (see note)
2/3 cup all-purpose flour
Salt, to taste
Pepper, to taste
24 chicken wings

Sauce:
1/2 cup (1 stick) butter
1/2 cup red wine
1/2 cup heavy cream
3 tablespoons black truffle butter (see note)

Preheat oil in fryer according to manufacturer’s instructions.

Combine flours, salt and pepper. Dredge each wing in the flour. Place in fryer six at a time. Shake basket or stir to make sure they don’t stick together. Cook until wings are done, which is usually when they float. Let drain. Repeat until all are cooked and drained.

For the sauce: Melt the butter and brown it. With heat at medium and butter browned, stir in red wine. Keep stirring, though this will foam and crackle and hiss. Once the red wine has reduced and is thickening, add the cream and keep stirring until it is incorporated. Let the mixture reduce some more. Then stir in truffle butter until it has melted into the sauce.

You can either serve the sauce on the side of the wings or toss the wings in some of the sauce. Use any leftover sauce on steak or chicken. When reheating sauce, stir it briskly to reincorporate ingredients.

Note: Truffle flour and truffle butter are available at upscale supermarkets such as Central Market. Store unused truffle flour in as air-tight a container as possible and keep in the freezer until next use; a little goes a long way in terms of flavor.

Makes 24 wings.

Good morning, everyone.

It is Moving Day here. Of course, the kids (my roomie's grandsons) are usually here at 8 am. Today, since I wish to give them their gifts, then leave, they're late. Sigh. I shall finish packing, shut down the computer, and then must be on my way, kids or no kids.

Jane, my roomie grew up in LA, very close to us. I think she's either very frugal in some ways or is part polar bear. Who knows? Maybe both.
