DR DtM - said Tv Guide was not already in my possession, I found it on EBAY.  It was the only issue for October, 1958, that was not listed by month, so I did a search to find out who was on the cover - Perry Como - and then searched EBAY with that information and voila!

Here is a link for the tv schedule for october 20, 1958. Still more confusion

I've shaved and showered and am awaiting the arrival of helper number two and LACCTAA board member.  I had to pack up several more orders.

That's weird DR MICHAEL S.  Well maybe my TV GUIDE will answer that when it gets here.

Now, I'm closing up shop here for a while and heading downstairs to watch EVERY LITTLE STEP and maybe the 1929 SALLY with Marilyn Miller.

Back from a festive holiday luncheon with my volunteer administrator friends.  On the way home I stopped at Barnes & Noble, Pier One, and Starbucks and did a little Christmas shopping.

Eight days until Christmas.

I better get started, then.

How can it creep up like this when everything has been in the stores since September?

Greetings gang,

We had a nice first day of nothing. I slept until 6:55, which is late for me. I watched Arthur and ate my oatmeal. Then I laid down for a while again. I got up around 8:30, got a haircut and then came home. We relaxed and had lunch. The postman delivered a package from a friend. There are presents inside but we decided not to open them until we are back in the city from Long Island on the 27th. We just finished dinner, some sliced chicken, a baked potato and salad. Tomorrow we will go upt to Macy's and look at the windows and if the store is not mobbed we will go inside and look around the sadly depleted Toy Department. They still have a great Santa Land but a few years ago they cut the Toy Department down to almost nothing. They build it up a bit at Christmas but not by much and then after the holidays it's gone again. We will probably walk up and over to Lord and Taylor's as well to see their windows. We have a festive occasion on Friday, Saturday, Sunday and Monday evenings. I get to sleep late every day and then eat and party. I could learn to like this.

Actually, they never sing eight days to Christmas in "Twelve Days to Christmas" from She Loves Me:

Ensemble:
On the first day of Christmas my true love gave to me. Ooh..

Amalia: Good morning, Mr. Novak.
Georg: Good morning, Ms. Balish. How are you today?
Amalia: Oh, I'm ready for thousands of customers.
Georg: Well, only twelve days to go!

Ensemble/Customers:

Fa la la la la la la la
Fa la la la la la la
Fa la la la

Twelve days to Christmas,
Twelve days to Christmas,
Plenty of time to do your Christmas shopping
These are the people who shop in time, shop in time, plenty of time
These are the people with time to spare who shop at their convenience

Twelve days to Christmas,
Twelve days to Christmas,
Look at the way they do their Christmas shopping
They can go shopping and still remain calm and sedate
These are the people we envy and the people that we hate!

Thank you, Thank you
We'll call again
We'll call again, thank you

Amalia: Quite a day, eh, Mr. Novak?
Georg: It certainly was, Ms. Balish.
Amalia: Oh thank you for the book, it was excellent.
Georg: Oh, I'm glad you enjoyed it.
Will you be taking the bus home today, Ms. Balish?
Amalia: Yes, I will.
Georg: May I walk you to the bus stop?
Amalia: Oh, I'd like that Mr. Novak, thank you.

Ensemble/Customers:

Twelve drummers drumming,
Twelve drummers drumming
Eleven pipers piping,
Eleven pipers piping
Ten lords a leaping
Nine

Nine days to Christmas,
Nine days to Christmas
Still enough time to do your Christmas shopping
These are the people who shop in time, shop in time, still enough time
Sensible people who organize the time at their disposal
Nine days to Christmas,
Nine days to Christmas,
Still enough time to do your Christmas shopping
These are the people who plan their days wisely and well
These are the people who shop in time, and they can go to hell!

(Simultaneously)

Cashiers: Thank you, thank you, please call again, do call again, thank you

Customers: Thank you, thank you, we'll call again, we'll call again, thank you

Georg: Are you in a very great hurry today, Ms. Balish?
Amalia: No.
Georg: Well, I thought, maybe a cup of coffee on the way to the bus?
Amalia: I'd love that.

Ensemble/Customers:

Eight maids a milking
Seven swans a swimming
Six geese a laying
Five golden rings

Four days to Christmas
Four days to Christmas
Just enough time to do your Christmas shopping
These are the people who shop in time, just in time, barely in time
These are the people who calculate with clinical precision
Four days to Christmas
Four days to Christmas
These are the folks who never waste a second
Full of a chilly efficiency
Loaded with gall
Never too early and never late
AND THEY'RE THE WORST OF ALL!

(Simultaneously)

Cashiers: Thank you, thank you, please call again, do call again, thank you

Customers: Thank you, thank you, we'll call again, we'll call again, thank you

Amalia: What a day!
Georg: Ah! Just wait until the twenty-fourth.

Ensemble/Customers:

THE TWENTY-FOURTH?!
One day to Christmas
One day to Christmas
Not enough time to do our Christmas shopping
We're not the shopple who peeped in time
We're not the sheeple who popped in time
We're not the people who shopped in time
Shopped in time, not enough time
We are the people who always wait until it's much too late, OH!

One day to Christmas
One day to Christmas
How will we ever do our Christmas shopping?
Why did we ever delay so long, who can recall?
Some of the family may not get a Christmas gift at all!

(Simultaneously)

Cashiers: Thank you, thank you, please call again, do call again, thank you

Customers: Thank you, thank you, we'll call again, we'll call again, thank you

Merry Christmas!

I just saw that Roy E. Disney has died from cancer. So sad.

He tried so hard to bring Disney back to what it was and he succeeded in part. Michael Eisner did leave the company

For supper:  Smithfield ham, boiled potatoes, leftover limas and corn-and-tomato casserole, and buttermilk biscuits.

Ooooooh.....soooooo....gooooooooood!

For dessert, my first taste of my mom's rum cake.  MERCIFUL HEAVENS, it's good...with a little kick!

Oh, yes.  I am in the middle of decorating a small tree.  Lights are on as are all the older ornaments in my mother's collection.  Many of them I remember from my earliest Christmases...and even then, they were ornaments my mom's mother used on her tree.

Love the old stuff, I do.  My mother thinks several of them look too tatty to use (faded colors), but I think they're splendid.

Since I'm doing the tree....well.....  :)

I have a short story to relate.  Everyone in this little town is germ conscious nowadays....now more than ever with the "H1N1" ("hiney") virus going around.

My mom and aunt have been using sanitiziing gel for as long as I can remember there being such a thing.

My mom was telling me how she now won't use a towel more than once...or a wash cloth...or anything that might get wet.  Her bout with pneumonia and her not knowing how she acquired it (given that she felt great the day before) has left her taking extra precautions.  She reminded me that as we age, we are more susceptible to the havoc germs can wreak upon the human body.

She then laughed and said, "Germs and Jesus"!

I said, "Huh?"

She was surprised I didn't remember, because she has brought it up before:  When I was about 6 years old, I was called to the dinner table from playing outside.   (For an aside:  I was raised to be Southern Baptist and my mom took an active role in teaching me about Jesus and praying to Jesus...and, on occasion, using Jesus and his teachings as an admonishment when I was bad).  As I walked toward the table, I was instructed to get my butt into the bathroom and wash the germs off my hands.

A minute or so later, my mom heard me muttering in the bathroom.  Thinking I was sassing her under my breath, she went to the bathroom door and asked me to speak up and tell her what I said.

I looked at her, she recalled, and said, "Germs and Jesus! Germs and Jesus! That's all I ever hear about, and I ain't never seen either one!"

I asked if she spanked me, but she said no.  I surprised her so much she could only laugh.

-But I had a nice walk, and it was nice to spend the day bopping around town with my friends.
