RLP - I agree about Red Buttons in Hatari - makes my teeth hurt.  The real surprise is how delightful Elsa Martinelli is - she should have had a longer career - I remember her from a few other films, but now I'll have to find out what happened to her.

DAW, glad it got there - don't know why this one's taking so long - not one person on the film music board has acknowledged getting it and that includes the many Californians.

If anything, she'll have a couple more hours to finish her editing work here with Peter.  So that's a good thing.  Now it's just a matter of getting re-booked for tomorrow - and getting to the airport tomorrow.

*She was also able to pick up some croissants from Petrossian, and it looks like she'll be able to get a bagel with whitefish salad today too. ;)

Up to 18" of snow in Charlottesville. So far.

Up to 14" of snow in Richmond. So far.

Up to 12" of snow in the DC area. So far.

I ended up seeing "A Single Man" last night at The Paris Theatre last night...

Non-movie observations: I was sort of surprised that the movie theatre was not filled last night. There was a good crowd in attendance, but I was expecting it to be close to sold out. However, the lack of crowd did allow me to have a nice seat in the mezzanine with an empty seat on either of me.  Alas, I believe The Paris Theatre has to have the noisiest popcorn bags in New York City.  The crinkling was quite distracting at times.

I also got a chuckle out of how many gay men were in the theatre last night... with iPhones.  -Myself included.  ;)

Anyhoo...

TOD:

CASTLE

THE AMAZING RACE

BIG BROTHER

SOUTHLAND (now cancelled)

RULES OF ENGAGEMENT (now cancelled, I think)

LIFE ON MARS (now cancelled)

MODERN FAMILY

Those were the only shows I watched in 2009, so I don't have ten total. But I sure liked all of 'em.

Yesterday I received two LP records of crooner Tony "The Teenaged Tornado" Travis. What a swell singer he is.

Some (particulary JRand) may be familiar with Tony as he starred in films like JAMBOREE and THE BEATNICKS and showed up on lots of TV like Perry Mason and M Squad. He was a wonderful actor and singer. I think I need to interview the guy.

As for "A Single Man"...

I really liked it.  It really does seem like the pairing of first time director/writer/producer, Tom Ford, with Christopher Isherwood's original story was fated.  There's a great "style" to the movie, but it's subtly executed.  Colin Firth has really earned the praise and nominations he's earned so far - and his wardrobe - designed by Tom Ford suits (pun intended) him well.

Plot-wise, it's sort of hard to talk about.  It's more of a "personal journey" movie.  However, I will say that the opening 10 minutes are haunting, beautiful and heart-wrenching.

What DR Jose said!  Yes, I'm back at it and no time to read all the posts but just wanted to say that FINIAN'S RAINBOW  was amazing and wonderful and i loved every minute of it!

And it was so kind of Jose and Bradley to meet me after. I have had zero opportunities for fun on this trip so that more than made up for it!

I have never had a flight cancel so I don't know how it works to get another. I tried calling Delta, but of course, all lines were busy.

I do like the idea of brunch tomorrow if it works out! More later...

Good mornin', my dear dears!!!

Many thanks for all the happy birthday wishes from the Hainsies yesterday - I have had a roller-coaster 3-day birthday, filled with much travelin' and several refuelings - and MY car gets 50 mpg...

Anyhoo, thank you thank you to BK, my twin Dan the Man, MBarnum, JMK, Kevin H, Jeninifer, TCB, Arnold MBrockman, Julie, George, Michael S!!, Laura, DAW, Vixmom, JRand, Ginny-Gins, Sandra, RonP, ELMO!!, Kerry, Ben, MattH, Druxy, Jose, Cillaliz, and my ol' pals Jane/Keith/Sherlock for remembering me on my 61st anniversary of life on this here planet!

I had three - count'em - 3 dinners on the 3 days of birthday; got paid, finally, from the rehab clinic (HUGE check, cuz they owed me for 3 months) - I drove to Malibu and sat in the office until someone wrote a check! - , visited my arents' and grandparents' graves at the cemetary way out in the wilds of Simi Valley yesterday - my dad's b'day and mine are the same day - visited my developmentally disabled cousin Tina (morey Orloff's only daughter) in Tarzana, shlepped to Agoura for many days to help my sister Rikki cut, weigh, package and box her largest-ever year of candy orders, wrote the reviews I've been putting off becuzz I was too busy, did two count'em 2 auditions (didn't get the gig - probably a good thing...), picked up 3 piano students, picked up a taping of a new game show!!, got good news about one of my stories (more to come on that one), and and and... tonight I'm going to LA Ballet's Nutcracker at UCLA Royce Hall - I get great tickets, becuzz I write reviews that celebrate this company's continuing progress and their still Being Here into a 4th season...

OH!

And, yes, as evidenced by the copies in hand last night at The St. James Theatre, Finian's Rainbow now has a Souvenir Program.

My niece is on her way here for some lunch and to pick me up for some shopping around town.  She's really coming to give herself and Gram a break from packing and from each other.  Sounds like it's gotten pretty intense out there.

DR edisaurus - Once again, it was great seeing you last night.

*I got an update from my airline pilot friend - If the change fee isn't too bad, you might have a better chance of getting out early tomorrow if you can rebook to fly out of Newark (EWR).  Of course, then there's the little issue of getting out to EWR tomorrow morning.  -Although, on the bright(?) side, "they" are saying that the NYC-area will be getting 9-14 inches of snow.  However, it will move in fast, fall quickly, and move out fast, which will leave plenty of time to get the roads - and runways - clear by tomorrow morning.
