From last night:

DR Laura: "I bought a plane ticket a few days ago, and I don't remember ever being required to give my date of birth before. Seems like there are already an awful lot of security things to go through now."

Frankly, I'm surprised the airlines hadn't been asking for this additional bit of "Proof of Identification" before now.  That's part of the TSA's new "Secure Flight" measures which ask for your: Full Name, Date of Birth, and Gender.  To me, that sounds like that would have been a lot easier - and cheaper(!!!) - to implement immediately after 9/11 than the heavy-duty screening machines and the personnel required to run those machines.  Yes, some "Privacy Advocates" are bitching about having to submit even more information to the airlines and the government, but that's a truly small price to pay for knowing who is actually on your flight in the seat next to you.

Beets are delicious if you cut them into wedges, toss them with some olive oil, wrap them in foil, and roast. Then you just need a little salt and pepper.

**I just hope that whoever cleared this "suspected" terrorist to fly is reprimanded, well.. Fired!

He was on a none-TSA intelligence database that includes people with known or suspected terrorist ties, and officials knew about that possible connection for "some time..."

"Suspected contacts" is insufficient data to put a person on the NoFly list.

That's how we felt when our newest Lima parishioner arrived for church on Christmas Eve.  She was born on Dec. 16 and brought her parents to church with her.

They might be juicier if you leave the skins on during roasting. (After roasting the beets can be easily skinned by rubbing them with a paper towel.)

penny how strange the hostess insisted I take all four goose carcasses.  what did she suggest you do with them?

When I objected to her throwing them out with so much meat on them, and suggested 'stock' - she insisted I take them and make stock... I was glad to get 'em!!

And for any DR who may be flying this weekend - and most likely, over the next couple of weeks...

I've heard from a couple from a couple of friends and acquaintances this morning via phone calls, texts and Twitter, that the TSA has ramped up the screening requirements after last night's terror attempt:

-NO liquids in any amount in your carry-on.
-NO electronics allowed "on" during the flight at all.

And it seems they've also re-instated the "No getting out of your seat during the first and last hour of the flight" rule (which took effect right after 9/11) as well.

Terror attempt??? where was I?? I have heard nothing about this... can you spell 'under a rock?'

I have a question for the church music directors:

What happens if you miss the deadline to have the music information to the church secretary so she (or he) can type up the bulletin?

We have to go to the store sometime today and purchase a memory card for Anthony's new digital camera. It's a great camera but it did not come with a memory card and the card in his current (very old from 2000) camera is too big (physically) for the camera so it can't be used. Oh, well.

Later, gaters.

Good Morning Ben- What Camera Did Anthony Get?

He got a Canon PowerShot SD 1200. It's part of the ELPH line. We got a 16 megabyte (big by old standards but tiny by today's) memory card so we know the camera works and it takes great pictures but we need a bigger memory card. This one holds just 7 pictures taken in high quality.

My, how times and technology have changed.  The 8 GB memory card in my camera (at its highest quality setting...7 megapixels) can take over 2000 pictures and at its lowest setting can take over 10000 pictures!!

I don't actually know exactly how many pictures it can take on its lowest setting.  The display on the camera only goes to four digits, so I can take a whole bunch of pictures and it will still show 9999 pictures available.

Well, not sure about the new car yet - while it's been an incredible year for Kritzerland, one dealer is so far behind in payment (he's just about to pay half the bill for Clouseau this week - so he still owes the other half of that, then Pressure Point, Stranger/Tamiko, and The Children's Hour, and this week he'll get Empire and Rhapsody - it's a HUGE amount of money and it will be at least three months before it's all paid off.  If I had that money now there would be absolutely no problem getting the car on Monday.  I've tried to get him current, and he actually promised to pay his huge Taras Bulba invoice in two payments, but then he forgot that and it ended up being four payments, which pushed everything back three weeks later than it already was.  However, I cannot push him because he's the Kritzerland life blood.

BK, since you and he both know that he is going to continue to buy your titles as they are released, once all of this has been paid, can he start pre-paying you for the next titles that you know he will buy?

Good day from Sioux City!!!
It's still recommended no travel, but after I dug out the 2 feet of snow around my car and realized there was no wind at either end of my journey to blow the snow around, I decided to go for it.  It took over 3 hours to make what is usually a 2 hour trip.  The roads were snow and ice bpacked, but I went slow and made it.   I was very pleased to find that my neighbor had cleaned out my driveway!

My cat sitter didn't get here last night or today.  there was an extra - oh I don' tknow maybe 8-10 inches of snow last night and she just couldn't get here.   the girls seem fine   Callie missed 3 doses of her meds, so I'm going to keep an eye on her, but I think it will be fine.

The snow going up my path to my door is mid thigh depth and there is a lot of snow that I need to move tomorrow.  My shoulder is sore from shoveling out my car.  The snow was over the tires and there was about a foot of snow on the top of the car.  this after I cleaned it off yesterday!  It's a very wet heavy snow.

EASY - you handcuff the sceretary to her desk until such time as the information is provided. Should the secretary still be in cuffs when the minister arrives, and the Bulletin is not prepared, the minister should blame the secretary for her poor planning.

Sioux city seems to just be buried. To get an idea of how long this has been going on, the churches that had to cancel Christmas eve services are now posting announcements that they will be cancelling services tomorrow.
