I set the DVR to record CHANGLING in HD which earned Anjelina Jolie an Oscar nomination last year. I should have some time to get to it this week as well at some point.

I hope they don't make rules that say we can't take our laptops onboard. I do not want to check my laptop.

I don't like checking luggage at all. I always pack light enough so I don't need to check anything (the exception being when I went to my sister's last winter).

I have to fly next month. That's why I am interested. I am quite selfish, I guess.

Just set the DVR to record a ton of amazing hi-def movies beginning on January 1 - several Billy Wilders, West Side Story, the Judy Garland A Star Is Born, Night Of The Hunter, Moby Dick and quite a few others - a wonderful movie start to the New Year.

Oh...

And as of sometime this past weekend, if you live in New York City and parts of New Jersey, you cannot currently purchase an iPhone online via AT&T's website.  You can still walk into an Apple or AT&T store and buy one, but the zip codes for the NYC area are currently blacked out.  -And the tech-world awaits an official statement from AT&T (and Apple) on this one.

You can bring your laptop on board.  You just can't use it.

Although, I am wondering if they're going to make passengers/people turn on and off their laptops at the security screening again.

That will really slow things down. About a third of the people flying seem to have a laptop.

I saw a few minutes of NIGHT OF THE HUNTER in HD on some channel some months ago. I can't remember which channel, but it looked great.

I have a few finishing touches to the 8 1/2 review for today and then I'll close up shop and head downstairs to bed. I'm getting very close to the end of BUT HE DOESN'T KNOW THE TERRITORY, and it has been such a fun, interesting book.

Was just perusing some comps for similar Infinitis and while I've found a couple that were about $800 cheaper, they had a LOT more mileage on them - about 15K to be exact as opposed to the 711 on the one I'm thinking about.  It's starting to feel better to me.

DTM - thanks for sharing those great close-up photos of your Christmas Village and Nativity scenes.  How wonderful that you have this tradition dating back so many years.  I assume your parents had started the collection and you grew up with it being a part of your annual Christmas tradition?

Yep, it all started when my dad bought the Lionel train set for my sister's first Christmas in 1946!  I more or less took over the set-up during my teen years.

DR Dan (the Man) - :)

How long does Christmasvillagetown stay up?  Do the Three Wise Men eventually join the tableau?

I usually dismantle everything the weekend after the Epiphany.  The one surviving Wise Man is there from day one.

This is true, Cillaliz. I hope she's ok.

Cal missing her meds is really why I decided to try to get home.

Of course.  VIBES SHE CONTINUES TO BE FINE!

i was also glad you didn't mention you were driving home until after you had safely arrived.

So was I!  We would have been very nervous for you had we known in advance.  But I'm glad you were able to get home to take care of Callie.

Thanks everyone.  There was no reason to worry you all.  It was a very thought out decision. The worst part of driving in the country when there is snow is the wind.  When I left there was no wind on either end of the trip.  I didn't hit any wind until about 20 miles from home.  I talked to several people before I left and all agreed that there was a window of time before it started snowing again and the wind came up.  I just took advantage of it

And as for those new flying restrictions...

Most of them apply to flights coming into the US.  However, there have apparently been some "random" new rules set up for domestic routes.  Anyhoo...

Some of the new rules - implemented and suggested - really do seem, well... stupid.  "Nothing on your lap for the last 30 minutes of the flight."  Really?!?!?

International flights it's the last HOUR of the flight

I heard you can't use the bathroom the last hour of the flight, so one should plan their beverage consumption accordingly.

This is going to suck when I go to NY in a few days. I carry on my editing system in a rolling case and purse and overnight stuff in a shoulder bag. Oh well...

Greetings one and all...

It has been an entertaining, fun and stressful weekend...

Mother Nature was providing the storm guest who would not leave. DH and I are finally heading back to Fargo tomorrow. It was not until this afternoon that Fargo was open enough to drive.

I think NDSU can write this year off as ANNUS HORRIBILUS:

First the flood which wreaked havoc with class schedules last spring
12th Ave debaucle
Leaking in the library
The Chapman house fallout and now this:

http://www.inforum.com/event/article/id/264023/

The contractor did not do the proper prep work before digging....

We can be thankful that no one was in the building...

Question for those in the "know" - it's no secret that there was a recording of the musical Smile and that it's been circulating for some time (in fact, a certain DR provided me with a recording when I was going to MD the show, which never happened) but my question is, why wasn't it recorded with an orchestra instead of MIDI accompaniment?   Anyone have any insight on this?

Good night everyone and pleasant dreams

The recording of Smile was done specifically to have as a licensing tool - it was not meant for public consumption and it was done on the cheap, as they could not afford to do such a thing with a band.
