I spent much of the evening luxuriating with GONE WITH THE WIND on Blu-ray. Looks just fantastic and, as usual with Blu-rays of classics I've seen dozens and dozens of times, I sat there noticing things I hadn't noticed before. Just watched the movie - didn't do any of the bonus material today. At some point this week, I'll likely rewatch the making of GWTW. I know they didn't transfer it in HD, but that's OK. I'll enjoy seeing it again anyway.

After that was over, I checked out today's ONE LIFE TO LIVE. Fish was on in a minor capacity, but I understand he and Kyle show up tomorrow in more generous amounts of screen time, so I'll look forward to watching that.

I rewatched another episode of THE MENTALIST, the one with the father-son team of policemen investigating the murder of two supposed druggies in a motel.

I had recorded the HD airing of THE OPPOSITE SEX this afternoon, so I looked at about 20 minutes of it tonight. Color much stronger than the DVD-R I burned for myself last year, but I'll have to put it on again to make sure I want to burn another one since my DVD won't burn it in HD anyway.

We had a very nice day, quiet and relaxed. We went to

Eisenberg's Sandwich Shop

on Fifth Avenue and 22nd Street for lunch. They have "...been raising New York's cholesterol since 1929" It's a lot of fun to eat there. It's a sandwich counter with some tables and they have been in continuous operation for 80 years! I had a BLT on white toast (I went off my low-cholesterol diet for lunch) and a chocolate egg cream and Anthony had a liverwurst (ugh - I feel about liverwurst the way I feel about beets) sandwich and a chocolate egg cream. Yum!!!

We are having a guest tomorrow to see our festive tree. I have to contact dear Larry to arrange a time for him to view the tree as well. Just a few more days of vacation left. But Larry can come over well into January since we leave the tree up for quite a while.

Anyway, it's late (for me) so I will take my leave. See you in the morning.

Nothing review-worthy came in the mail today, so right now it appears I may have a day off tomorrow. Likely those Fox discs will arrive some time this week, but maybe not tomorrow. They don't appear to be titles that people are eager to purchase.

OK, I guess I've finished my evening internet surf and now I'm ready to head downstairs to bed.

Good night!

Good night, Matt.

I'm leaving work now, so I'll say (as usual), until later!

Ah, well...

Say Goodbye to Music: Broadway's Ragtime Will Close Jan. 3, 2010

:(

*This announcement makes me very sad for a number of reasons.  First of all, it's always sad when a show closes, regardless of the reasons. I also have some friends from DC in this production - many of whom were making their Broadway debut.  I just talked to two of them. Alas, both of them had just signed leases on new temporary (thankfully) apartments.  In fact, one of them moved into her new place today - just a few hours before the closing announcement was made official.  She signed up for another three month term.  My other friend got lucky(?) and just signed up for another month.  Her last (for now) Broadway paycheck will be covering that rent. :-\

DR Ben - I love Eisenberg's! Although, I haven't been there in years.  Guess I should remedy that in 2010.

DR Jane - Have you ever tried the peanuts from the Virginia Diner?  Their product line more or less duplicates that of The Peanut Shop of Williamsburg, but over the years, I've come to prefer the Virginia Diner peanuts (plain, roasted, salted).

*And I actually like the Peanut Soup from The Peanut Shop.

I do wish to thank everyone who sent the patented excellent haineshisway.com vibes and xylophones - I think I made the right decision, and we can just hope and pray that Kritzerland continues to sell out releases quickly, so that we can build up the kitty in no time flat.

I updated my home iPod, which I hadn't done in ages, so there are six hundred plus more songs on it, and one motion picture I downloaded from the iTunes store.  Tomorrow I'll do the same for the car iPod, which I reckon hasn't been updated in six months or more.
