And the word of the day is: PAVONINE!

And The Song Of The Day Is:  GOOSE NEVER BE A PEACOCK

Is this one of the cut songs from WHOOP UP?

In 2003 I bought my first ever brand new car, a  Honda Element.  They were just hitting the market.  It's a great car and over the past 7 years of operation, it has way over 100,000 miles on it.  I have one more year of payments on it.  I'm considering a hybrid in the next few years, but in the meantime, the Element is still going strong.  That's the thing about Honda's, if you keep up on the maintenance, they will run forever.

As some of you may remember, we bought a new Chevy Cobalt in February.  It was an easy-peasy deal, no real haggling aside from the trade in value of my old Subaru, which they upped by over a thousand once I started to stand up to leave.  ;)

In other exciting news, I believe my "nuggets of wisdom" (a euphemism, to be sure) are out of me, but I am still very tender.  In fact it occurred to me that off and and on for the past several years I would occasionally get a bit tender in my left kidney area, something I always ascribed to too much caffeine.  It was more of a tingling-numb sensation than real pain, but now I'm wondering if perhaps I've been dealing with smaller "nuggets" for years without ever realizing it.

Hello, gang...

Best new car experience was November, 2003 - I bought my current automobile, a Honda Civic Hybrid -- they were all but giving them away, in those days. I got a super deal, paid cash, and a year later, having put over 30,000 miles on it, I was offered what I had paid for it. The summer of $4 a gallon gas brought some interesting offers, too -- I have consistently gotten 50+ mpg, and now have over 150,000 miles on it - and nary a problem. Not ever.

Yesterday i took my disabled cousin Tina (Morey Orloff's daughter) to Reno for her birthday - a friend from Winnemucca was in Reno with her daughters and new granddaughter. Grueling doesn't cover it - I picked her up from her assisted living facility at 6:45 am, shlepped her (and her dog - she won't leave the building without the dog...) to LAX, parked, got her and said animal (a really sweet terrier - last year I outfiitted her with a 'Service Dog' vest, which allows us to take her everywhere, courtest Americans With Disabilities Act of 1991) through the tightened security. We sat waiting for our plane, while large bomb-sniffing canines and their handlers circled round and round the terminal. Long long long day... meet and greet, sit and visit, go to lunch -- with the dog, sing Happy Birthday to YOU -- deal with Tina's several melt-downs, shlep through Babies R Us and buy gifts for the new baby (I insisted the dog stay in the car for this - another melt-down...), back to the airport, security, no bomb sniffers in Reno airport, cuz after all - RENO?? Plane ride back to LAX, wait on the tarmac for a parking place, deplane, shlep through LAX to the car, drop Tina in her facility at 10:30 pm, and stay at Rikki's, cuz it was only 20 minutes further. How time flies...

I'm up, I'm up, and would have certainly slept a little later save for the phone ringing at ten to nine - you guessed it, the co-author of the long musical.  I didn't take the call and when I listened to the message it was to tell me he'd re-sent some pages.  What is with people?  He couldn't e-mail me?  I've told everyone on the team that I am not taking any calls or answering any e-mails about the show this week - period.

MattH - While I was writing the notes, I thought to myself, myself you should go to the imdb and look up Carrie because maybe Sissy was nominated.  And then, being senile, I forgot to do it, so thanks for setting the record straight and it's good to know she got up, and frankly I would have given her the Oscar over Dunaway, and I certainly would have given Piper Laurie the Oscar over Beatrice Straight's one scene performance.  Miss Laurie was, in fact, absolutely brilliant as Mrs. White.

I found my garage door opener so I'm going to go back to the car dealer and have him show me how to pair it with the car so I can just open the garage door without the remote.  I also forgot to get copies of the car reports, which I'd like for my records.

Jose I haven’t tried peanuts from the Virginia Diner.  I can’t remember if we tried the peanut soup.  I think we did but haven’t ordered it since.  I like the peanut butter straw candies.  If I could get a small sized bag I would order it.  Once I made the mistake of getting the tin, which was way too much for me to eat by myself.

Chocolate covered peanuts - unshelled - that's the expensive kind

Michael, I am very much of the same persuasion.  My car has never been an extension of my personality or my penis.  Eventually, I'd like to get another Prius or hybrid...but it will take a few years...or an unexpected windfall...

TOD:

I've never really been a "car person".  As long as the vehicle gets me to where I'm going in relative comfort and with minimal expense, I'm happy.

I'm still driving my 2000 Honda Accord LX, which only has about 27,000 miles on it.  Just had the timing and other belts replaced, and the mechanic tells me that, with the way I drive, if I take care of the car, it should last me the rest of my life.

Works for me.

It's why I kept my last car for eleven years - I just loved it - but the writing was on the wall and I just could not justify sinking one more penny into it.

Good thing, or you'd need to get a PriAPus.  ;)
