I've got a few things to tidy up in terms of office matters and then I'll head down and start cooking lunch. I've been running behind this morning (not a good sign for Oscar day).

I have one award that I would really like to see win.

In the Dcomentary Short category is a film:
"The Last Campaign of Governor Booth Gardner" -- Booth Gardner is the former Governor of Washington State (he was my boss) and a very nice man.  The film is about his personal fight against Parkinson's Disease, and his campaign to Legalize Assisted Suicide to Washington.

I'll pop in later, but I, too, will be skipping the Oscars.  Y'all have a great time!

Good Morning! Good Day!

I'm up, I'm up... And I think I'm one of the only people in Lexington right now who is NOT at the UK basketball game.

DR Elmore - Yes, that is sad news about the passing of Philip Landridge. I shall have to listen to some of his Schubert on my iPod today.

JRand & Cilla, thank you.  I am happy to say I made it through the night without incident.  I wasn’t sure at first that I would.

And I will be missing most of the Oscar night festivities tonight too since I shall be in transit from 6:08 to 10:37 (with a very brief stopover in CLT), weather and equipment readiness permitting.

I am not a fan of lists or awards for worst dressed, worst film, etc.  I gotta say Sandra Bullock handled winning the Razzies with real class & humor.

I'm perplexed by the comments on that site that Ms. Bullock was being self-deprecating.  While very smart and  funny and classy that she showed up, she sounds more defiant and questioning their judgment than self-deprecating, and seemed to be saying that she did the best that she could given the dialogue, at least from this quote:

"I’m willing to go page-by-page through my dialogue, so we could be here a while. I will read it like the way I read it in the film and then anyone who wants to give me a line reading of how I could have done it better… So we could do this till about four o’clock in the morning. Or you guys could re-watch the movie and re-think your decision and I will show up next year and then we can all go drink afterwards.”

Since the Oscars start at 8:30, maybe I will watch 30 minutes of THE AMAZING RACE.....and maybe more.  I don't think I will miss the ego-fest that Steve and Alec will bring to the Hosting Chores.....with the emphasis on the latter.

DR FJL - you may have something there.

I have never met an terrible actor who really thought he was terrible....and it's the worst ones who won't take ANY suggestions or criticism.

Not that I put Sandra Bullock in this category - but .... well ... if the shoe fits.....

As was written here earlier - it wouldn't bother me if Ms Streep took home her third award.

I did not repeat "self-deprecating"  I too didn't get that.  I thought she was very funny & obviously the audience agreed.

I didn't realize that attending BK's Oscar Bash had anything to do with either or liking or hating the Oscar telecast.  In the past it has been a good excuse for being snarky, bitchy, and irreverent while enjoying the living room of our host, goging ourselves with ham chunks and cheese slices, and getting slightly tipsy on Diet Coke.

Why would anyone stay away, just because they like or hate the Oscars?

This is exactly the point and I really do not understand why it's happening - it's almost willful and I just don't get it.  It's an annual party where we all have a great time.  And suddenly it's like, oh, I can't be bothered because I don't like the Oscars.  SO WHAT?  It's FUN.  Why be a party-pooper?
