TOD

Sherlock Holmes has been very good to me in my career and I am also something of an expert, having pored over the entire Canon many times.

Favourite stories:

Hound of the Baskervilles
Sign of Four
Valley of Fear
The Adventure of Charles Augustus Milverton
The Disappearance of Lady Frances Carfax
The Problem of Thor Bridge
The Adventure of the Creeping Man
The Man with the Twisted Lip
The Adventure of Wisteria Lodge

Favourite Films:

my own HOUND OF THE BASKERVILLES ('83) - Ian Richardson as Holmes
THE ADVENTURES OF SHERLOCK HOLMES ('39) - Basil Rathbone as Holmes
STUDY IN TERROR - John Neville as Holmes
MURDER BY DECREE - Christopher Plummer as Holmes
THE PRIVATE LIFE OF SHERLOCK HOLMES - Robert Stephens as Holmes

TV

Jeremy Brett is hands down the best Holmes on Television (bearing in mind, I've never seen Douglas Wilmer's performance) and his portrayal is for, my money, the best Holmes EVER...because he is not at all afraid to make Holmes at times, thoroughly dislikeable, as he could often be.

STAGE

I have a sort of funny JMK=Jennifer story, from the "old days" at the label which must not be named.  They had occasional chat-fests, like we used to, moderated by Mr. David Levy.  I used to sign on as JMK, and David invariably referred to me as Jennifer, though I repeatedly told him I wasn't.  So I guess Jennifer could be my nickname.

Currently at the Montreal Airport (Pierre Elliot Trudeau) enjoying the free wi-fi. I got here two hours a head of time. Checked in, went through security, and then customs all within 15 minutes I was shocked.

I was also amazed at the technology there is now at this airport. I checked a bag. Brought over to the conveyer belt for the luggage. The scanned my ticket and then the bag and the conveyer belt start to move!. Then went I went through customs they showed a photo of my bag and was asked if that was mine. A wow factor but also scary.

Happy UNbirthday, DR JMK (aka Jennifer).  For the purposes of HHW.com, you'll have to settle on being "DR Jennifer Jr."

TOD

Murder By Decree (I think Christopher Plummer and James Mason was one of the best Holmes and Watson)

The 7% Solution (Nicol Williamson. Love the story an original)

The Hounds of the Baskerville (Peter Cushing as Holmes and Christopher Lee as Baskerville)

I remember seeing The Private Life of Sherlock Holmes and sort of enjoying it but I think it was the badly edited version.

And the Basil Rathbone's Holmes that wasn't updated to the 40's when the movies were filmed. Don't remember the name of the film a the moment

Monday morning greetings!  Well, I certainly didn't plan to sleep until 9am, but must have needed it.  I've been to the post office and am now in from the wet, blustery weather that has moved into the Miami Valley.

TOD - You're asking the wrong member of our household about SH; Richard and Rob are the real fans.  I've watched some with him, but never read any of them on my own.  I was pleased when Rob said he wanted my dad's 2 volume complete Sherlock Holmes for his shelves.

There is a series of novels by Laurie R. King in which the sleuth, Mary Russell, is an associate of Holmes.  Maybe I'll add those to my want-to-read list.

Jrand - actually, I have a huge number of polo shirts.  The blue one with the stripes is quite different than the black one with stripes - the material is very different.  Now, I also have a maroon one with stripes that is the twin of the blue one with stripes.  I also have a maroon one that is the twin of the black one with stripes.

Yes JRand, TAR last night was one of the most enjoyable episodes! The Cowboys had me in stitches a few times. They are very amusing.

It has been a long time since I have watched a Sherlock Holmes movie, but PEARL OF DEATH was always a favorite when I was a kid.

I don't yet know the outcome of last night's race, but it looks to me that CBS is setting the Cowboys up to be another Rob-and-Amber, all-purpose kind of twosome.  The network had them do a commercial for some country music awards a week or two ago...
