THE JUNE BUG WHO HAD A HEART ATTACK

Well, you've read the notes, the notes had heart and also attacked, and now it is time for you to post until the cows come home - they're currently trying to kill a June bug.

Topic of the Day:  "The Towering Inferno" and "The Poseidon Adventure" (the original) are the first favorites that come to mind. :)

Back on a decent schedule, at least for today. Don't have to report until 8 a.m. Feels weird not getting up shortly after 4 a.m.

I grew up in the disaster flick era, when Maureen McGovern was expected to sing the main song and all was supposed to end happy -- or at least more solidly -- ever after. I really liked "Poseidon Adventure" and thought "Towering Inferno" was OK, but "The Swarm" was silly and so was "Earthquake" in Sensurround. John D. MacDonald wrote a good page-turner called "Condominium," about a hurricane headed straight for the Gulf Coast of Florida. It was turned into a horrible mini-series.

The nice thing about reusing flats, is that you can remember some of the shows they were used for before....there's a lot of ARSENIC AND OLD LACE on my set right now.  ;D

I like theory lights. But they're sometimes hazy for the audience.

Monday morning greetings!  Ah, it was so nice to sleep in our own bed last night.  Maybe now my back will stop hurting.

TOD - our family is quite fond of INDEPENDENCE DAY and will soon have to fulfill our tradition of watching it on or around the 4th of July every year.

Good morning, all! I have an appointment with my new doctor, Dr Miller, at 10 am, and that's the best news I have had in several days.  I'm hoping she can rethink some of my meds and give me an antibiotic to clear up the swelling in my cheek. Oy! I look like Vincent Price in THE WAX MUSEUM.

So, after the doctor, there will be most likely a trip to my Lincoln Center pharmacy. Susanna Moross Tarjan wants to talk to me about her father's opera SORRY WRONG NUMBER, so I know that after 1 pm I will be talking to her. I also have to stop at the post office to send something to our DR JRand59 to thank him for the St Joseph real estate aid.

TOD: When I feel really lousy and fear my extinction approaching, the least thing I want to think about is a disaster film. I want to go out laughing.
When I was a kid I loved WHEN WORLDS COLLIDE; I read the book and its sequel many times during school, and I have no idea how the film holds up after 50 years of advanced technology. Badly, I'd guess, but I have the memories.

When I did my senior dissertation at Rutgers, I also happened to be the only senior.  So I not only had to direct my presentation, I had to design and TD the set.  I chose a number of stored flats and fastened them together.  When it came time to paint them, I discovered that the scenic designer who used them before used dyes to paint them, which meant that I had to use four coats of white undercoat to prime before the dyes stopped bleeding through.  Thanks goodness for the cast and a visiting professor and her friend, all who stepped in and volunteered to get the painting done to keep the production on schedule!

Greetings from Cancun.  Weather is cloudy today with a chance of enchiladas.  Seriously, I'm not sure what will happen with the weather.  The widget says thunder storms, which means absolutely nothing.  It will be nice to see the sun before we leave (Sunday morning).  But at least we are not home and working.  I'm not complaining.  :)

DR Matthew, keep in mind...

Oh you can catch the rays in Cancun.
And you can swim for days in Cancun.
But when the night time falls,
Oh how New York calls
'Cause there's no cocaine in Cancun.

...

Oh we got everything in Cancun.
Even got Burger King in Cancun.
We got blue lagoon.
We got tropic moon.
We got chic saloon.
We got Debbie Boone.
She's in "Brigadoon."
For two weeks in June.
But there's no snow,
No blow,
No co-
Caine in Cancun.

(Sniff-sniff-snifff.)
