Thank you, DR ELMORE.

I used to do as DR DRUXY described.  In the early days of cable....CBN was NOT what it is today, and they would show a lot of old Republic and UA movies from the 50's late at night.  I would sit up to record some of them....and using that WIRED remote edit out the commercials.

Oh, and of course, thanks to bk for the BD paragraph in the notes. But instead of cheese slices and ham chunks and doing the Hora or polka, make that a banana moon pie and let's all do the hootchie choo!

DR Elmore - Richard and I will deliver JoAnn's Canton surprise this evening!

Max and Maddie will carry on a bit but they're really wonderful dogs. I suspect Jo will drag them out to the back yard when they start carrying on.

I believe the first VCR I bought was with the first bigger stereo tv I bought, shortly after I bought my first house in 1986 (that's a lot of buying).  I was very excited to have this "high tech" new device.  I can't really remember what the first tape I bought was, but I well remember joining Columbia House and just getting scads of stuff I had wanted to see for years.  I also splurged (this was long before you could get rare items online--in fact, there really wasn't an online then) and paid $90 for Come and Get It, which a local video store agreed to sell me since it wasn't getting rented very much.  Such are the vagaries of true fandom.  :)

DR JMK you paid more for COME AND GET IT than Paramount was paying Frances each week!

But not as much as Sam Goldwyn was paying Paramount to borrow her for CAGI.

Yes, and Shepherd Traube sued me for the difference.  ;)

I also remember how thrilled I was to find SOUTH OF PAGO PAGO on VHS at the reasonable price of $29.95 at a local video store.  I ran down to buy it after work on a Friday and promptly went home and watched it, falling asleep about half way through.  :)  I later watched it with my late friend Evelyn Hamilton, the producer of PILLARS OF PORTLAND, and she was very funny at the battle scene in the climax, asking, "Why when they're in danger, do they always climb UP?"  (Jon Hall and others were climbing the masts of a ship, and of course several natives fell to their demise).

I was a Beta man, too.  I think I had my first machine in around 1983 or so - I used to tape everything off the Z Channel.

Hey everyone.  I'm alive, I think.  Things have been moving along.

Happy Birthday DR Miss Karen!

TOD- The first DVD I bought was the Making of The Producers.  (as in the recording) along with Annie Get Your Gun, all back in 2001.  Can't remember what VHS I purchased, but it may have been Sister Act.

I'm off, will check in later.
