I feel compelled to counter some of BK's rant regarding cancer treatment. Yes, billions of dollars have been poured into cancer research, and YES, we have definitely made significant strides into treatment, resulting in longer life expectancies. However, there are many types of cancer, and if you're talking conventional/Western medicine, then the treatment protocol must be tailored to the specific cancer. So, a "cure for cancer" is a bit of a misnomer; a "cure for all cancers" would be a more accurate way to put it.

Chemo is NOT the only treatment option. There are MANY others. But since (1) most patients in the US are relying on insurance coverage, and (2) many US doctors are not cognizant of the other options, the patient is generally not informed of all the options. If you're relying on insurance your choices are limited. That is a sad fact of the US health care system.

Many of the most innovative treatment programs today are in Germany. I do not know how German research is funded, nor  how "liberal" their health insurance plans are, nor how many Germans are trying newer approaches. Generally in the US these alternative approaches are only tried as a last resort--possibly because they are not covered by insurance, thus requiring out-of-pocket funds.

A "miracle" to my mind would be:
(1) all patients are given a full range of options for their care,
(2) we develop more early-warning diagnostics.

The first of the above is partly education, partly (largely) political. The second of the above is largely attitude. In other words, both are doable, given sufficient motivation.

Man I'm sleepy....I spent most of the morning doing the more glamourous side of my job, shopping for clothes for my client to wear during trial.  He has no one here to do it for him so....   Anyway, I went to the Junior League Discovery Shop and had some luck. I went to the jail with about 3or 4 different sizes in pants and one fit...so back to Good Will and found a couple more pants that will work. I'm not totally pleased with the shirt selection and I'm hoping the shoes fit.  I don't have a tie for him.  Not sure I want him to have one.  I know he'd never wear one in real life and the truth is he isn't very sophisticated or bright and I don't want him to appear like he is

I'm really concerned about the shoes.  I may just run to WalMart and look for some that are fairly flexible and a little bigger than the ones I got.  I could always return them if the Good Will shoes work out

I better get socks too and a belt.    I don't get paid for the clothes since it's court appointed, but it will be the start of my defendant clothes collection.  I haven't needed one before because I borrow from the public defenders, but they have nothing even remotely close to my client's size and he only wears a 40 waist...well and 29 inseam...

There's an opening at the art center I should go to tonight, but I'm feeling sluggish and should probably just get some dinner and start organizing my trial notebook.

The other day I was talking to a cardiologist. He first gave me the plusses and minuses of drugs for heart disease, then told me what he dislikes about alternative medicine. The terminology he used indicated that he did not understand the basics of alternative medicine. He then turned to my blood tests and said how impressed he was with the drop in my cholesterol. That drop was achieved using an "alternative" approach, ie fish oils. Yet, despite my impressive results, he didn't seem particularly motivated to learn more about it. I find that typical, unfortunately.

Of course, money is needed for research, but IMO attitude is the biggest obstacle.

OK, think I'll go to Walmart and see what I can find in the shoe department.

I never noticed until making this how much the melody of Andy Williams' "HAPPY HEART" sounds like "FLY ME TO THE MOON" (or FJL's "FLY ME IN THE NUDE").

And of course as soon as I burned it, I thought of more songs, but, like editing, sometimes you just have to decide you're done and wrap it up!

Well, as much as I love Volume 1, I don't intend to give you the opportunity to produce a sequel!

Jeanne, my doctor suggested fish oil, and I asked about ground flax seed, and he said to use it.

Good! Now the DR's should all post their favorite heart songs that I forgot!

John G., maybe I misread one of your posts yesterday; but I thought you wrote that Reno opens ANYTHING GOES with "I Get A Kick Out of You."  But she doesn't in any prodcution I have ever seen. I have always seen the show open with "You're The Top."

In the original 1934 show and the Lincoln Center revival, the first number after the overture is "I Get A Kick Out of You."

Lincoln Center?  Would that be the Miss Piggy Patti version?

I did the entire grocery shopping today and Richard even let me "fly solo" at first while he went across the way to Staples to make some copies.  I think I'll let him fix dinner...

I don't give names when I turn them in. I realize people want to name their own kittens.

Sometimes I do give the mom cat's name -- but only if it's something that won't show up on a google search. "Vixmom" would, so I didn't give it. "Jane," "Ginny," and "Jeanne" were safe.
