With regards to the edited "South Pacific" I saw: I was a kid with a theater mania, and my parents took me to a lot of productions of shows that I would never have seen otherwise. They liked the whole concept of dinner theater, and I just wanted to see "Finian's Rainbow" or "George M!" or "Can-Can." I saw many shows that were poorly staged or edited, but at least I saw the shows. I saw what worked and what didn't.

I was thinking earlier today of a production of "Shenandoah" that didn't trust the material, so somebody decided to incorporate the song "Shenandoah" into the second act, to give it a hit tune that people could go out of the theater humming. But I got to see "Shenandoah."

All those productions, especially the bad ones or the truncated ones, helped me do a better job when I became a theater critic. Seeing the PG version of "A Chorus Line" makes you appreciate the original even more. Seeing a low-budget production of "A Little Night Music" that works or a "South Pacific" that doesn't has plenty of lessons to offer.

SHENANDOAH had some should-have-been hit songs.

Remember the commercials that were done for the musical SHENANDOAH, which looked like movie scenes shot on locations. Someone did post on YouTube three of the real honest-to-goodness effective commercials; although the picture and sound are out of whack, you can see how much they tried to look like some movie-musicals of the day. (The EQUUS slide is a false start.)

Back from a really good dinner at a ramen shop in Old Town Pasadena.  What an interesting and very peculiar place that's turned into.  This jernt had great food and boy was it inexpensive.  I had salmon with teriyaki sauce and rice (very light) and it was great and came with miso soup and a little salad - the whole thing was $8.95.  My friend had a big bowl of vegetable ramen, which she loved.

This morning, I woke up at 9:24 a.m., with what sounded like my DVD players and VCRs turning on.  I looked at my clock and it was blinking 12:00.  I don't know how long the power was off, but it just came on.  I reset all my clocks and there were no problems.  This afternoon, I was here on HHW and catching up on Facebook, and at about 2:54 p.m., the power went off again!  I hadn't taken a shower yet and had to take a shower with only a flashlight.  The power was still off when I left at about 3:45 p.m., to celebrate my dad's birthday (he loved the Barnes & Noble gift card and the "Warehouse 13" season one DVD).  I don't know if it was just my building or part of the condo complex or what.  But when I left, I turned down one street and the traffic light at the far end (where I was going) was off.  The light at the intersection to the left (also where I was going) was off, too.  When I got home about an hour ago, everything was on and working...AND "Mad Men" did record.  I don't know if I'll find out what happened, but as long as everything works, it's not a problem.

Most of this day has been tied up with the Herbert recording; I discovered three more songs I hadn't collected in McGlinn's Herbert files, and I think I'll give them to Ron Raines to sing. I also just signed our E&T DR Jason before your FB demand, DR Laura, to be one of the chorus men backing up Rebecca Luker on one of her songs. I'm thinking about asking Merrill Grant if she'll join the ladies' chorus.

This is so cool!  Can't wait for this!
