Wednesday morning greetings!  I slept 'til after 9:30 - quite late for me.  Rob started his 3rd quarter (of 5) of paramedic training today and Richard's at the historical society doing treasurer work, so I have some solitude until it's time to leave for the cardiac rehab gym.

Oh what a beautiful Wednesday....

Last night in the pit of La Cage during the curtain call, I looked up on the stage as the cast was singing "The Best of Times" and I realized that over half the cast wasn't even alive when the show was on Broadway, and unless they read up on the show (which I'm sure most don't) they have no clue of the impact of the show at the time.  Not to mention the importance of the song "The Best of Times".  As far as I can tell, they were singing what they were told to sing.  There wasn't any sort of excitement or joy in their lyrics.

Unfortunately, this is what's happening to this generation of actors that do musicals.  Having grown up with Rent, Wicked, Next To Normal, etc etc... the excitement of a musical COMEDY is lost on this generation.    I find this very sad.  I still get excited by the La Cage score and ALL of the scores by Jerry Herman.

And that's what I have to say.

LOL.....NO, DR ELMORE, I don't.

I agree with you DR MATTHEW.....people keep coming to our auditions saying things like.....I never heard of this show (Kiss Me Kate) - I don't know any songs from this show.....never seen this show (Hello, Dolly)......and even sad.....they don't want to know about them.

I was just reading about TWIST - I thought it was a dance musical about the twist.....it seems to be Dickens' OLIVER TWIST set in 1928 New Orleans.....by the author of THE WIZ........

Went and had some eggs and a bagel to tide me over until dinner.  I'll jog in about thirty minutes, then go to the mail place and hopefully pick up some packages, and then the musical director will pick up his stuff, then I'll get ready for the trip downtown.

So, I made a special stop on the way home at Meijer, which has a bulk candy section.  I went through the entire bin of Tootsie Pops and found only 2 chocolate (on the outside) ones.  As that is one of the few chocolate items I'm allowing myself to eat, that's clearly NOT enough!
