NACHO NOTES
« on: September 21, 2010, 01:20:32 AM »

Well, you've read the notes, the notes were bloated and filled with guacamole, and now it is time for you to post until the cows come home - they're currently feeling bloated having eaten their own late-night nachos.

Yesterday the butterfly scientist and another butterflying friend spent the morning in Mesquite Wash north of town and then went up to Pine for the afternoon.

Mesquite Wash had a fire earlier this summer -- a man had built a home-made luggage rack on the back of his car. While he was driving, the suitcase caught on fire. So he pulled over and grabbed the suitcase and flung it off his car. It landed in the dry grass beside the road and burned many many acres of desert. I had not been over to check out the wash until yesterday. Luckily the riparian area was ok, but the burn goes on up the hill for quite a ways. We saw LOTS of butterflies, but only one monarch.

Pine is up in the mountains, so it was much cooler. We collected some milkweed seeds (the scientist had a permit from the Forest Service to do so) and then enjoyed lunch and ice cream.

A very nice day. Sorry to have to come back to 107 degrees. Accuweather says we have an inch of rain coming. Um, yeah.

Good morning, all! Today is our last day for this round of recording before we return on Oct 2. We'll begin this morning with more piano & cello, and we may finish that by the 2pm break. After that, we'll record more piano solos. When I get home tonight, I have to look over the price lists for full scores, miniature scores, and composer editions so we can finish all of that up tomorrow at the McGlinnventory.

TOD:

Sometimes a Day Goes By ("Woman of the Year")
I Don't Remember You ("Happy Time")
Dear One ("Kiss of the Spider Woman")
Home (70, Girls, 70)
Sing Happy and A Quiet Thing (Flora, the Red Menace)
Maybe This Time (Cabaret movie)
Let's Hear It for Me (Funny Lady movie)
Happy Endings (New York, New York movie)
Second Chance (Steel Pier)
The entire score for The Rink

So many others I can't remember because I'm still too sleepy.

I listened to "Kiss of the Spider Woman" the other day for the first time in a few years and was really impressed by how well that score serves it purpose, plus most of the songs are just great on the ear.

And the word of the day is: CARAVANSARY!

And The Song Of The Day Is:  CARAVAN

And the Major General's Song in "Pirates" actually uses the word (not that that qualifies it as a Song of the Day).

BK, how was Susan Watson in "70, Girls, 70"? What role did she play? I've always loved her voice.

There's was a lovely song called LIKE LAURA in a musical Skip wrote in the 1990's with the late Richard Engquist.  The lyric started something like "There's never been a one like Laura, Fun like Laura, No no one, Running here, running there"  but that Laura was much more scattered than our Laura.
