Oh, I'm crying just thinking about what that must have been like!

Of course, I also cried at my vet's retirement party. I'm easy.

My first cry of the day came when I went up to hug Susan White - a.k.a. "The Best Stage Manager In The World".  Sue was battling cancer a few years ago, and she came close to losing that battle.  Thankfully, she beat the Big C. As she hugged me, she whispered in my ear, "You are missed, and you are loved. And you should know that."  -I lost it.

DR edisaurus - FYI: "Madeleine Patisserie" has changed its name to "La Maison du Macaron".

*And if you have a chance, you should check out Chef François Payard's new bakery. Très, très bon!

As long as they haven't moved, I WILL find them. That movie trailer has me craving the salted caramel for some reason.

Great stories, DR Jose. That sounds like a fun day.

It really was a great day!

First of all, I got down there early so that I could walk around and take pictures of the new building - which was essentially built over the existing buildings. Beautiful!  I did take some pictures, but I believe this PHOTO TOUR from Arena's site will give you a better idea.

After the brunch - which was quite good - and the speeches, the rest of the day was filled with various performances in each of the theatre spaces, as well as an outdoor stage.  I ended up attending Brad Oscar's mini-concert, as well as the "preview" of their upcoming production of Oklahoma!.  Brad did a great set of songs including a show-stopping "When Yuba Plays The Rhumba On His Tuba*, and he finished off with a nod to his Tony-nominated performance in The Producers by performing "Haben Sie Gehört Das Deutsche Band?".

Alas, I wasn't able to attend some of the other mini-concerts, but I did see the wonderful Kate Baldwin and her wonderful husband, Graham Rowat.  -Kate was my Nellie Forbush when I did South Pacific at Arena.  I also got to spend some time talking with the talented-and-handsome-as-ever Matt Bogart.  -DR elmore, be sure to keep an eye out for him and Jess and their son in your 'hood.  They finally moved in a few weeks ago.  -Oh, and he also shared some quite wonderful news of his own: there will be another little Bogart come next March! :)

*That's a clip of Rudy Vallee, not Brad.

Then since I was nearby, I decided to check out "Top Chef" Spike's new-ish place, We, The Pizza.

I tried a slice of their special BBQ Pork Pizza, and a slice of their Roasted Potato and Pancetta Pizza, and their "Good Morning Vietnam Coffee" Soda.

ALL YUM!!

And then I headed back out to Virginia to join the rest of my family to celebrate the birthday of my brother, Mike.  His birthday is actually next weekend, Halloween, in fact, but since my youngest brother, Jay, is in town this weekend, my Mom wanted to go ahead and celebrate tonight since all four Simbulan boys were together.  -Basically, she wanted a "photo op" with her whole family. ;)

We ended up at Joe's Crab Shack. We ate. We used a lot of Wet-Naps. And we took a lot of pictures.  :)

I had a really really fun night at the Symphony tonight. It was a night at the movies and they added some banter between the conductor and our local film critic.  The banter was funny, entertaining and short.  It really added some spice to the evening.  They had a costume contest.  I did dress up in my black bead and sequins dress.  ( I discovered I didn't give it away after all).  I even wore strappy little sandles .  Eveyone had a character, so I just said I was a seat warmer for the Academy Awards.   I didn't win (didn't expect to) but I did get a laugh from the crowd watching the contest, so that was a good thing.

Anyway, it was really fun

I talked to a friend today who said I'm becoming a cat lady...as in crazy cat lady.   I don't think she intended it as a compliment, but my cats told me to take it that way ;)   seriously, I only have 3 cats in a big house.  I don't think that qualifies yet.

Speaking of which, when I came home tonight, Ricky was crying when I was changing clothes.  I went to his room and there was Callie standing outside the door. She's going to be a good mom.

Goodnight.

I better go, too.  I'm pretty tired and still need to do a few things before going to sleep.  Night all

LOVE the Uncle Jo Jo photo!

I do too! It was so nice having her not run away from me when I went up to give her a hug. :)

Back from a lovelier than lovely dinner, an art show (in the house), and then a dessert excursion.

Dinner was faboo - Olivia (the daughter) made a chicken/pasta with pesto dish that was yummilicious - I ate way too much of it - a nice salad and for an appetizer, fried cheese with a slice of avocado on top.  After we looked at Olivia's latest paintings, we went to a nearby place called Dish - I had a slice of chocolate mousse pie.

I'll have more to say about Olivia's paintings in the notes.  But here's an example of one of my favorites:

This was part of a series she did of Carnival Mamou paintings - something that is sort of an alternate New Orleans Mardi Gras celebration.

I drove by Canter's the other day.  They do have really good chicken soup.  And lox/eggs/onions. Yum. :)
